Darkstar - the Science Fiction and Gaming Club at UCSD is a science fiction society in La Jolla, California, a suburb of San Diego, California. Darkstar was founded at the University of California, San Diego in 1978 by undergraduate students. Darkstar is renowned for both the club Constitution and Greeting.

Since 1999 Darkstar clubhouse is on the UCSD campus in the Che Cafe complex; previously the office was in the Old Student Center on campus.
Darkstar shares office space with the Society for Creative Anachronism and the Sore Losers Gaming Club.
[edit] Significant Activities
Regular Thursday night dinner meetings at a revolving list of restaurants in the metropolitan San Diego area.
The club maintains the Anne Proud Memorial lending library for books and videos, with substantial pulp magazine holdings.
Darkstar (and/or its membership) is generally involved in the organization of Conjecture, the San Diego sci-fi convention. In addition, it is related to several prominent sci-fi authors, such as David Brin.

The club was founded in 1978 under the principles that there shall be no discrimination on the basis of race, sex, color, creed, alignment, preferred breathing atmosphere, or number of appendages.
Since then, each academic year there have been elections held in the merry month of May to elect a Dark Lord/Lady, Chief Wraith, Scribe and Treasurer, in accordance with university policy. Traditionally, the wicker basket is nominated to the position of Scribe during primary elections in the month of April.
