Cannot confirm the following anecdotal material "He went to Texas Military Institute and his roommate was Ronald Lee ("Runt") Bowen. When he was performing at an Annual Rodeo in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas (Mercedes Livestock Show), he phoned Runt and told him he was making so much money from Bonanza he stuffed it in mattresses." - Blocker was principal owner of the Bonanza Steakhouse chain.
Can anyone substantiate this? I'm removing it until it can be documented. It sounds like urban legend.

Image:Hoss.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. So, we're supposed to believe that he campaigned for liberal POTUS candidates, and opposed the VN War so much that he moved his family out of the country, but that he refused a role in Dr. Strangelove because it was too liberal? This should claify this point:
Stanley Kubrick attempted to cast Blocker in his film Dr. Strangelove, after Peter Sellers backed out of playing the role of Major T.J. "King" Kong, but according to the film's co-writer, Terry Southern, Blocker's agent rejected the script as being "too pinko". The role subsequently went to Slim Pickens.
