Claudia Severa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Claudia Severa was the wife of Aelius Brocchus, commander of a fort near the Roman fort of Vindolanda (Chesterholm) in northern England around 100AD. She is best known today for the birthday invitation she sent to Sulpicia Lepidina, wife of Flavius Cerialis, commandant at Vindolanda, which was found written on a well-preserved wooden writing tablet during excavations at Vindolanda[1] in the 1970s. The birthday invitation is thought to be the oldest extant writing of a Roman woman found in Britain.
