Children and Young Adult (YA) Literature is literature written for, published for or marketed towards children and young adults. The American Library Association (ALA) defines children as twelve-years-old (12) or below, and young adults are defined as being between twelve and eighteen (12-18).
The Noughts & Crosses series by Malorie Blackman is a sequence of three young adult, science fiction, novels and a novella set in a fictional, racist and dystopia world. Noughts & Crosses series is set in a world where the people with slightly darker skin colour (Crosses) are dominant over the lighter skin coloured people (noughts). The books' world is quite similar to early 21st century Britain but racism and prejudice are much more overt. The series tells the story of several characters from two interlinked families with very different positions in society.(More)

Sarah Trimmer (née Kirby) (January 6, 1741–December 15, 1810) was a noted writer and critic of British children's literature in the eighteenth century. Her periodical, The Guardian of Education, helped to define the emerging genre by seriously reviewing children's literature for the first time; it also provided the first history of children's literature, establishing a canon of the early landmarks of the genre that scholars still use today. Trimmer's most popular children's book, Fabulous Histories, inspired numerous children's animal stories and remained in print for over a century.(More)
