[edit] Conyers, Davis and the first MI district
Davis did not represent the first district. While he was in office, his district was known as the eleventh district. The boundaries were redrawn in 1993. While the areas that Davis represented in the UP and northern MI may have been similar to the current boundaries of the first district, I think it is incorrect and misleading to say that he represented the first district. older ≠ wiser 17:08, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Michigan's 11th congressional district
Nice start on this. I'm not sure about the district images from the National Atlas. Not sure if you got this far, but they are from here. I think you need to preview the map, then right-click on the image and dave it to your hard disk. Then upload that image to Wikipedia. Yep, that's the ticket, I just uploaded the map for the 11th district. older ≠ wiser 02:13, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mi14 109.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

It looks like you figured out how to resize the image. If you use the tag {{PD-USGov-Congress}}, please be certain that any images you use it on is from a website of US Federal government. If the source is not a federal website, then you need to obtain explicit permission to use the photograph from the source (and perhaps use a different license tag). [edit] Michael Prusi
Hi, and thanks for the message on my talk page. The {{wikify}} template is just a note to tell people that the page doesn't properly conform to Wikipedia's Manual of Style, mainly because of the way it's structured. You don't have to do anything to fix it, because someone else will - eventually - but if you'd like to go for it anyway, there are some simple things you can do to clean it up a little:
- Make sure that there are no paragraphs shorter than two sentences or so. Short paragraphs make articles hard to read, and often contain no content that can't be included elsewhere.
- Organise your article into sections, introduced by a succinct leading paragraph. Some possible examples could be "Early life," "Politics" or "Controversy," if there's been any.
- Introduce references into your article. All you really need to do is to provide a couple of links to other websites in-line with your text, to back up any assertions you may have made in the article.
- Provide a brief "See also" section, with relevant links to other Wikipedia articles.
Those are just off the top of my head - if those changes are made, it'd be fine to remove the Wikify tag. Bear in mind, placing any tag like that is not a reflection on the person who created the page, but just a note to other people that it could be improved in one way or another.
Hope this helps, and happy editing! RandyWang (chat me up/fix me up) 02:42, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please use appropriate image license tags
Hi, I've noticed that you've uploaded a number of images and tagged them as either GFDL or as public domain. Please do not do so unless you are certain that that is the correct license. For example,
- Image:District map.jpg is not a work of the U.S. Congress
- The source you provided for Image:JRockimage.jpg, The Hill is copyrighted. You cannot take an image from that site and claim it is GFDL
- Same for Image:StromThurmond2001.jpg and Image:Levin Amdsrvscmttee.jpg.
older ≠ wiser 15:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- You need to be able to demonstrate that the copyright owner has explicitly agreed to release the image under the terms of the GFDL. As for the Michigan drawing, it would probably need to be recreated, even though there likely would not be much chance of any objection to our use of the image. The state maintains copyright on it's works, which makes it ineligible for use in Wikipedia (with the possible exception of claiming fair use -- although that also has come under close scrutiny lately). older ≠ wiser 15:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- You can put the email on the image page. For example, see Image:Barciaheadshot.jpg. I've not looked at the nominees' statements closely yet, so no pick yet. older ≠ wiser 15:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Negauneeironst.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Negauneeironst.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.
Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Repmccoterliv.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Repmccoterliv.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:42, 10 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 06:42, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Altmire15.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Altmire15.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

Also, here's the stock message about making sure to sign your comments:
Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! —Remember the dot (talk) 19:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- Also, you should note that simply requesting permission for use on Wikipedia is not acceptable; you must ask if the images in question have usage restrictions, i.e. commercial-use or derivatives. I also emailed the Michigan House of Representatives, and they said that these images cannot be used for commercial purposes and that derivative work is strictly prohibited, which means that they can't be used on Wikipedia.
