Chester Road railway station is a railway station serving an area of north-east Birmingham, in the West Midlands county of the UK. It is situated on the Redditch-Birmingham New Street-Lichfield Cross-City Line.

It is a park and ride station, having a free car park. This was expanded in May 2006.

[edit] History

The station was built in 1863 by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR), later part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). The station booking office and waiting room were rebuilt when the line was electrified in 1993. The original LNWR station waiting room was dismantled, and moved to the Battlefield Line Railway[citation needed], to their Market Bosworth Station, also a former LNWR station.

[edit] Service

The station is served by London Midland with local Centro branded "Cross-City" services, operated by Class 323 electrical multiple units. The station is served by six trains an hour in each direction, with an average journey time to Birmingham New Street of around 13 minutes.
