The ball of wax vandal (also known as Wiki ball of wax or WBOW) is an eccentric vandal who creates multiple sockpuppets and vandalises various pages in a random pattern. [edit]

while inserting nonsense about the "great pilgrimage to the holy land of the great wiki ball of wax". He will also add pages to the categories Category:History and Category:Landmarks. He is likely to add the above templates to user talk pages of users who interact with him, and on the talk pages of his sockpuppet accounts themselves. When vandalising, he will frequently hit the same article several times in a row with multiple sockpuppets.

Johnny the Vandal (JtV)' is a persistent vandal and troll.

Johnny has been known to insert pictures of nudity or other obscene content into pages and repeatedly make no good-faith edits and personal attacks. Users whom he prefers to harrass include Arwel Parry, Hephaestos, VelairWight, Mike Garcia/Michael, Raul654, RickK, Zoe, Curps, Guanaco, and rarely Freakofnurture. When blocked, he will often claim that he is RickK or Hephaestos and that he "lost his password" to RickK's or Hephaestos' account. Articles that he usually targets for vandalism include Crass, Death_by_Stereo, Hephaestos, Hephaestus, Penny_Rimbaud, Pete Wright, Social_Distortion, Steve_Ignorant, System_of_a_Down and The_Offspring.
==Means of identification== Johnny accounts often include "John" or "Johnny" followed or proceeded by something or another. He will often base his accounts' names on those of specific users, but will substitute either "John" or "Johnny" for part of the name or simply add "John" or "Johnny" to the users' name (e.g. Firefox Johnny). More recently, he has been using names which take after the pattern "John _ Robinson" (e.g. John Guy Robinson; John Penis Robinson). B-Movie Bandit (BMB) is the name of someone who used many IPs to create edit in ways that generated discussion among Wikipedia regulars. The user seems not to have created any user name, but has been nicknamed "The B-Movie Bandit". == Modus_operandi == This user would create very small stubs about movies and actors with peculiar grammar and syntax and absolutely no wikification or links. The easiest way of finding his work was to look for edits whose summary was the same as the title. An example of his work may be seen here, where he reverts an article back to a previous, worse, state. Repeated attempts to contact or educate the user have failed. It should be noted that attempts to improve articles, even when they initially fail, are welcomed. Initially many users thought that this user was unfamiliar with Wikipedia, wikis, and the correct form and style of articles. GrandCru is the common alias of a Wikipedia vandal. As of February 2006, it has 21 suspected sockpuppets. == Modus_operandi == This user's usual targets are articles related to Taiwan and China as well as pages of users he/she has problems with (such as those who work on cleaning up this user's vandalism). The typical forms of vandalism committed by this user are redirecting links, posting disparaging (and usually false) material directed at China, using profanity and redirects (especially on user and talk pages) and inserting nonsense into pages. As noted above, GrandCru will frequently target any other user who attempts to revert his/her vandalism, such as Bobbybuilder (talk · contribs), Zzyzx11 (talk · contribs), Wyss (talk · contribs), and MarkSweep (talk · contribs). The MilkMan accounts are a long list of suspicious accounts that follow a standard naming pattern. It is strongly suspected they are all sockpuppets of a known vandal, such as WoW, or a new, as of yet unknown one. His account names all follow a semi-standard pattern. The North Carolina vandal is a vandal who vandalises using multiple aliases. == Modus_operandi == The vandal often attacks targets having to do with North Carolina, particularly places in the north central region of the state, as well as adjacent areas. He has often vandalized Stokes_County,_North_Carolina. He also vandalises pages related to Elitism, Beer, Luxembourg, Mississippi, Per_capita_income, King_of_the_Hill and characters from the show, and some other topics. The vandal has created several identities, under each of which he affects a specific mode of editing. The North Carolina vandal has also created several stub articles. While some of these have been about small places which are real or supermarket chains which actually exist, others have been nonsense. == Sockpuppets and identities== The vandal's main identities, and their patterns of behavior, aside from the original vandal, are the following: #"Jake Remington" – has targeted Elitism and Budweiser #"Danielle Cunio" – has made POV-pushing edits to Christianity and related articles #"Regara" – has vandalised Riven and related articles #"Hijoli Cribi" – accounts used to persistently recreate a Myst-related hoax article. #"Jim Beanball" – Suspicious account User:Jim_Beanball:_the_NCV's_new_alias created on July 3, 2006, followed by a string of accounts using the new name. #"Jeb Berkeley" – accounts with this name or variations thereof have vandalised pages including this page's talk page and the user pages of blocked NCV sockpuppets. The Pelican Shit vandal (Also Mr. Pelican Shit with varying capitalizations) is the common name of a vandal who repeatedly vandalizes with the phrase "Pelican_shit" by inserting it into articles, blanking articles with it, and writing nonsense articles with the phrase repeatedly. On September_30 2005, an anonymous IP on Wiktionary claiming to be this vandal claimed that he will stop vandalizing, citing a lack of non blocked proxies. http://web.archive.org/web/20060913000000/http://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Wiktionary:Vandalism_in_progress&diff=611059&oldid=592718 It is not known if this was sincere. == Purview and relations == This vandal has also hit up on other Wikimedia projects. The Ass Pus vandal on Wiktionary has been clearly shown to be an alternate identity of his. In addition Wiktionary:User:Lugnut acted similarly to the autofellatio redirect vandal. Some of these usernames were related to the Homestar Runner wiki. == Modus_operandi == Like many other prolific vandals, detecting pelican shit vandalism is easy as he follows a standard pattern. * Googling for "pelican shit", * Looking for pages linking to "pelican shit" and * Checking the category Category:Pelican_shit will turn up almost all of his handiwork. In some instances he may have acted similarly to Willy on Wheels using the page move function to append "covered in pelican shit!" to random pages. However, another account claimed this was an imitator. They, like Willy on Wheels once did, have used HTML formatting vandalism in text boxes. Randallrobinstine is a persistent childish vandal. Nlu then blocked the IP for a month. Almost exactly one month later, on June_11, 2006, Randall returned to vandalize again using the account Vrray2006, until that sockpuppet was blocked. He then vandalized without logging in, resulting in his IP to be blocked for two months by Wikibofh. Since the expiration of his block, he has resumed vandalism. See the block log for his IP. On September 17 the IP address was blocked again for one month, but was an anon block only. On September 26, 2006, the IP was again indefinitely blocked, allowing no new account creation.

Rovoam is a POV-pushing sockpuppet vandal whose original account was banned on April_11, 2005. ==Modus_operandi== The vandal originally started his campaign of vandalism in February 2005, under his Rovoam account. He later was banned for causing a huge pro-Armenian dispute on Nagorno-Karabakh and a few other Azerbaijan-related articles. He was often using IP addresses/open proxies to continue his vandalism. Soon after his ban, he started using hundreds of IP addresses, and continuously reverted on many Azerbaijan-related pages, many of which were later protected, multiple times. Willy on Wheels is a page-move vandal who may have imitators.

Modus operandi The following is the form of vandalism that Willy most frequently engages in: 1. Accounts are created, frequently many at once, the vast majority of which contain either or both "Willy" and "on Wheels" or some variation thereon in their names, sometimes imitating legitimate users's names or using crude translations. 2. Using these accounts, random pages are retitled, usually by adding "on Wheels!". 3. Occasionally makes references to Liverpool or Merseyside, e.g. Wheels_Of_Liverpool (talk • contribs • page moves • block user • block log). Willy has also vandalised to a lesser extent in other manners, such as by adding this image to pages. It should also be noted that has claimed to have used a vandalbot.

Action

Any username containing the words "On Wheels" or any near permutation or discernible reference (e.g. "on Tires", Not "on Wheels") can be considered a WoW-type account and blocked indefinitely and without warning. Be sure to replace the userpage with Template:WoW. If the name seems on the outer edge of likelihood, add

Suspected sockpuppets As it is believed that some other users have created accounts that resemble WoW accounts; accounts should not be considered proven WoW sockpuppets unless they actually participate in vandalism of a WoW nature. The category both accounts suspected because of behavior and accounts that were blocked before they could be used for malicious behavior.

Other appearances and connections • Mr. Pelican Shit may be Willy, although he/she has claimed otherwise. • The Communism Vandal is possibly Willy. This can be seen in blocked users whose contributions display both WoW tendencies and TCV tendencies, although it is far more likely that such users are impersonators who have knowledge of both vandals. • MilkMan may be Willy. • The Loyola vandal has been alleged to be Willy. • Bobby Boulders has been alleged to be Willy, though evidence seems to suggest this is not the case.

Other notes • Jesus On Wheels is a legitimate user despite the resemblance between his name and those of WoW sockpuppets. • The original person (or one of them) claims to have quit. [2] (link also explains things such as Willy having used vandalbots) • They use WoW in their edit summaries.

MARMOT is one of Wikipedia's most notorious vandals, known for using proxies and bots (User:Love_Virus) to vandalize Wikipedia. User:MARMOT had been unbanned on one year of probation as of November_12, 2005, promising to "not vandalise" (see this Wikipedia Signpost article).
