[edit] Pre-GA review
I saw that this article was nominated for a GA review, but I think it's got some work to go before it's ready. A few recommendations to help make it through a GA review:
- The main image (the one of National Stadium found at the top right corner of the article) is a fair use image. It is preferred that a free image is used for th main image. In addition, the National Stadium image has no fair use rationale.
- The rationales for the other fair use images are copied and pasted. Fair Use isn't a rubber stamp deal. The section for the purpose needs to actually explain what each image adds to the article. To be honest, I don't know that the fair use images are necessary at all.
- Full dates should be wikilinked (eg. February 3, 1900, not February 3, 1900).
- Much of the article is unreferenced.
- The references that are used do not contain sufficient information (the minimum requirement is title, publisher, accessdate, and url).
- Some sections and subsections are too brief. One sentence (which should actually be two, if you overlook the comma splice) about baseball doesn't warrant a section. These need expansion.
- I would recommend finding a proofreader/copyeditor to help with the prose. Punctuation is definitely a problem. If both halves of a sentence can stand on their own (eg. 1881-2 saw the beginning of a stand for spectators, it held 300 people and cost GB£50.), they need to be joined with a semicolon (;) rather than a comma. In addition, commas need to be added to some of these sentences after the openings (eg. At that stage, By 1922, In 1958, Due to problems including transport issues, etc., should all be followed by commas).
- Some terms/jargon should also be explained or replaced (eg. all-seaters).
- En-dashes, not hyphens should be used for scores and date ranges. They are added by typing &ndash ; (without the space between the h and the semicolon).
- Numbers lower than ten should be typed out as words (eight, not 8).
- The subsection titled "The first stands" should not begin with a number. This is a problem elsewhere as well.
There has been a long wait for GA reviews lately, so there should be time to fix this up before the article is reviewed. As it stands right now, I would fail the nomination if I reviewed it now, so I strongly recommend working on this list so that it has a chance when a reviewer takes it. [edit] Successful good article nomination
I am glad to report that this article nomination for good article status has been promoted. This is how the article, as of May 22, 2008, compares against the six good article criteria:
- 1. Well written?: Pass
- 2. Factually accurate?: Pass
- 3. Broad in coverage?: Pass
- 4. Neutral point of view?: Pass
- 5. Article stability? Pass
- 6. Images?: Pass
If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to Good article reassessment. Thank you to all of the editors who worked hard to bring it to this status, and congratulations.

- On a secondary note, while it did not really affect GA status, a number of sentences have two spaces after the full stops rather than one. This isn't something that will block GAC but it is a little strange format-wise, hopefully it can be fixed. I have fixed some of the ones in the lead and history sections.
