Bonnie Gail Franklin (born January 6, 1944 in Santa Monica, California) is an American actress.
Franklin graduated from Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California in 1962.
Franklin is best known for her portrayal of the divorced mother, Ann Romano, on the long-running television situation comedy (or, since so many of its episodes dealt with serious topics, some have called it a "dramedy") One Day at a Time (1975 - 1984).
Bonnie Franklin has also been a guest star on a number of other television series, including a semi-regular role in the ABC series Gidget (1965), and directed several episodes of the 1980s sitcom Charles in Charge.
Additionally, she has starred in both Off Broadway and Broadway stage plays, winning a Theatre World Award plus a Tony Award nomination in 1970 for "Best Featured Actress in a Musical" for her performance in the musical Applause, opposite Lauren Bacall. Although Franklin is petite (5'3"), she has a powerful singing voice.
She was married to playwright Ronald Sossi from 1967 to 1970 and has been married to film producer Marvin Minoff since August 31, 1980. She has no children.

Bonnie has appeared in nearly a dozen staged readings with Classic and Contemporary American Playwrights (CCAP) in the Los Angeles area for the last several years. Last season (06-07), she appeared in Lillian Hellman's "Toys in the Attic", and most recently, she appeared in Neil Simon's "Broadway Bound" at the Pico Playhouse in January 2008. CCAP is an organization devoted to reviving works that are seldom seen and presenting them to student audiences in order to create a new audience for theatre.
Currently, Franklin has stated, the CCAP outreach program works with teachers at North Hollywood, Cleveland and King Drew Medical Magnet high schools. Working with the teachers in the English department, CCAP chooses works that will be incorporated into the curriculum and, before the presentation, gives a workshop at the school. Bonnie's sister, Judy Bush, commented, "The teachers make all the difference." She ... mentioned that she is currently working with the Pasadena Arts Council in finding a local school to include. Franklin once said that people have a hard time believing that she's Jewish because of her red hair and freckles.
