The Big 12 Championship Game is a college football game held by the Big 12 Conference each year. The championship game pits the Big 12 North Division champion against the South Division champion in a game held after the regular season has been completed.
The first championship game was played after the 1996 regular season, which was the first year of play for the Big 12 (which was created from the Big Eight Conference and four teams from the Southwest Conference).
The 2008 Big 12 Championship Game will be held on December 6, 2008. Per Big 12 policy, the Big 12 South Champion will be declared the home team because the game is played in the home state of a Big 12 North team. Designated "home" teams are 8-4 in Big 12 Championship Games.
