[edit] Balmain Australian Football Club
Hi Biatch. I saw that you added a "citation needed" tag to the statement about the "Balmain Dockers". Do you not consider the current front page of the club website a good enough source for this fact? JPD (talk) 10:25, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, thanks I saw that later. Just couldn't believe a club would sell out its history like that. --Biatch 03:16, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AFL Around the World
Forgive my late response here but I take offence to entries in the Australian Football Overseas article being removed and classified as "vandalism". You might be a diehard fan, but Ive travelled the world and the game is never heard of outside of Australia. I accept this is my POV and will not make any adjustments to the article - just wanted to raise the point that "the game is seldom played outside of Austrlia" is fact, or at best POV - and not vandalism. Regards Encise 23:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Encise
- I did no such thing. Read the logs before making accusations.--Biatch 01:48, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your great contributions too, including other notable Melbourne buildings which I have seen popping up. I do seem to have covered a few in the north, although I get around most parts of Melbourne and always have my camera at the ready.--Melburnian 11:34, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Balmain
Just saw your edit to Balmain. I've done a lot of work on the inner west articles and photo contributions and I'm wondering if the addition of a 'Gallery' section is the best way to go. There are numerous images of Balmain on Commons [1] and a while back I added the commons link box to the 'External Links' section of the Balmain article (and many others) so or readers can see additional pictures if they want to. Your pictures may be better suited as inline images in the article OR upload them to Commons with the other Balmain images for all to see if they want to. I'd be happy to help with the Commons upload if you need a hand. BTW, nice work on the Australian architectural styles article. amitch 11:42, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
To be honest, I'm only just starting to get my head around this whole commons thing and I much prefer to see images within the article so I know what it is talking about and can refer to them easily. Just a personal preference and I have seen it done on other articles. I have no idea where this sits in the Manual of Style however. --Biatch 01:16, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cultural Cringe
Thank you for your comments on my talk page. I'm sorry I upset you by removing your edits. Its true I can't take football seriously, but I don't mean to attack those who do. My main reason for the bulk changes was the low standard and excruciating bias of most of the section. For example, Rolf Harris not popular because of cringe - purlease! The guy is just not in the front rank of entertainers. But I digress. I changed it because I saw that almost all comments there were POV and emotional. I hoped by rewriting it to spark some improvement, and because I thought that almost anything was better than what was there. If you don't like what I put, you don't have to make accusations of vandalism, you can just go and change it. That's how wikipedia works. Phaedrus86 01:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
No worries. I wasn't making accusations of vandalism, just comment about the context of the edits. That particular article is something I also hope to improve over time. Cheers. --Biatch 01:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Username
You seem to have coped for most of a year with it, but ... I don’t really think your username is appropriate. Maybe you could be convinced to change it? —Felix the Cassowary 13:09, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
On what grounds ??? --Biatch 05:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is very similar to an offensive term, and a common way to say it without saying it. To me, that makes it the same. —Felix the Cassowary 13:50, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- It is similar to the word for a female dog. I can't see what is wrong with that ? Would you prefer me to use the name of a female sheep or a female horse ? --Biatch 05:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Melbourne (suburb) article
Considering your focus on the Melbourne (suburb) article, I think I’ll let you know that User:Adam Carr attempted effectively to unilaterally delete the article. I’ve reverted his change and justified it on the article’s brand new talk page. I hope you don’t take my request for you to change your name against me :) —Felix the Cassowary 14:18, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rag trade
I reverted your change to Textile because the article as written isn't about the industry, but the material. I notice that Textile industry redirects there, and that is probably not ideal. You migth consider making Textile industry into a new article instead of a redirect. There is certainly enough of a cultural relevance that it should have its own article. — Saxifrage ✎ 23:23, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- good idea, that's exactly what I did. Cheers. --Biatch 07:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sydney terraces
Hi Biatch, just to let you know that as part of dismantling my old site I've put a couple of Surry Hills photos in the Gallery that I took in 2002 and a lovely substantial stone terrace in the Rocks that is as solid and new-looking as when it was built when Queen Victoria was still probably a babe! Wonder how many of todays houses will last a quarter that long!
Any hints on how to use the Commons? How do you add, search and link commons files when you're editing a page? Quite out of my depth there.
Cheers, Michael User:MichaelGG
- Wish I knew ... I have asked many the same question but still haven't found the answers. I'll stick to doing what I know I think ;) --Biatch 07:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] POV
There is a good reason that I have given a 'mid' or 'low' importance rating to many of the AFL/VFL articles and that is because they are insignificant to the whole AFL picture. What I mean by that is the AFL article would be a 'top' importance article, each club would be of 'high' importance, historic grand finals would be of 'mid' importance, considering they are just a single game, and the draft as 'low' importance because the draft really does not mean much as when most people watch the footy, they don't give a damn about the draft. If you are really that concerned about it not being rated highly enough, you are free to change it. If you look closely, you might be able to see that those AFL/VFL ariticles had no previous rating.
Also, the thing that does give me arbitary right to rate the Brisbane article is that I'm on the assesment team of Wikiproject Australia which you are welcome to join. If you have an objection to the rating of the Brisbane article, discuss it with a few more editors and then change its rating. I won't have a problem with it. - Thanks. You know what, I went back to visit the article after I read your comment and someone had removed it ! Their comment was that it didn't represent Collins Street ! That's wikipedia I suppose (but I am getting tired of arguing with some of the dimwits on this site and their perculiar views). Thanks again. Cheers. --Biatch 07:17, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bates Smart
I read the Bates Smart article and i'm a little confused. You said that when Smart and Reed died, they were replaced by Smart. So, who actually died? Or are they replaced by someone else?

[edit] Brisbane Terraces
Think I've just about found everything in Bris! No luck at Dutton Park, went for a big drive today, covered the area from the cemetery down to West End. Ended up on Edomonstone Street. The reason I was looking in Dutton Park was because the Professor from the Brisbane Institute who wrote an article about the Undue Subdivision of Land Prevention Act says in his own page in the Brisbane Institute website that there are a few examples of terraces at Spring Hill etc etc etc and .. "a twosome at Dutton Park". I'm wondering if he has got his parks mixed up, as the Edmonstone ones overlook Musgrave Park and are 2 pairs, the one I put on the wiki page and the rather plain jane pair next door.
Still, I'll have another drive before I give up! Cheers MichaelGG
- I think you may be right there. --Biatch 07:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Your sarky comment was rather unnecessary. Being as this is an open-source encyclopaedia, you're more that welcome to edit whatever changes that you appear to have been so offended by. What in particular did you think was "very unjustified"? Tpth 23:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

- Is this about calling a fellow well-respected wikipedian an "arrogant NAZI prick"? I was also going to draw your attention to WP:NPA - I haven't found the edit(s) that so offended you yet, so it's possible I'm going off half-cocked too, but that kind of language is rarely appropriate in polite company. --Scott Davis Talk 07:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

- I guess I just don't like getting accused that quotes with valid references are POV and deleted without reason. When you put in the hard work and have some self-righteous editor undo it all it can get frustrating. I did not direct that at you specifically, it was a general statement about some wikipedians. Accept my apology. --Biatch 02:21, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Queenscliff Victoria
Found my photos from the trip in 2002, thought I had lost them and put in a gallery. Note there's a photo of Fort Queenscliff lurking somewhere in the system because it popped up in my gallery, identically named "Fort Queenscliff.jpg" so I changed the name of mine as it's a nice sunny picture taken on one of those glorious crisp spring days that only Victoria can put on! (9 degrees in the morning and 34 in the afternoon) - MichaelGG
- Michael, I reused one on the terrace house article and another on the coffee palace article. Cheers. --Biatch 04:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bris terraces
Glad you found the Queenscliff stuff useful. Guess what - there's a row of terraces at Leopard Street Kangaroo Point (near Gabba) - almost under the SE freeway. Apparently it was planned as a long street of fine residences but the 'Act' kicked in and they only built a few. I'll get a shot when possible, watch the page!!!
Few days later, decided not to bother, consists of a very nice substantial 'semi' not unlike Edmonstone Street without the ornate front steps, but glued onto the side is a house of quite different design. Rather strange and 'ad hoc', makes you wonder what the builders where up to at the time. So you get three attaced houses which theoretically constitutes a terrace, but I don't think the page would really benefit from a photo. What I'll do is when I'm on foot in the city I'll get a good shot of Harris Terrace, which is much more 'notable' and a better (apologies to whoever took the original) shot of the Mansions.
cheers Michael

[edit] Ripponlea
Hi, What are the official boundaries of Ripponlea? I question whether or not the Top Shop on the corner of Glen Eira Road and Hotham Street are part of Ripponlea? If so, would streets like Attley, Bailey, Myrtle, Acacia and Gordon also be in Ripponlea? If not (I think that is the answer), then places like Caulfield Grammar and the Top Shop, Attley, Bailey and Myrtle Streets would be in East St Kilda, whereas Solomon's Kosher Butchers, BBE Mechanics, Gordon and Acacia Streets would be in Elsternwick. Because Ripponlea Primary School on Carrington Grove is definitely in East St Kilda. Also, Ripponlea would have two postcodes: 3183 above Glen Eira Road and 3185 below Glen Eira Road. Because Oak St is in Ripponlea and its postcode is 3183. St Petersburg Restaurant is in Ripponlea and is 3183. 01:56, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. [edit] Notability of Central Goulburn Football League
A tag has been placed on Central Goulburn Football League, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Bren talk 18:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
