Barrett James Ruud (born May 20, 1983 in Lincoln, Nebraska) is an American football linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. He was selected as the fourth pick of the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Nebraska.

Ruud's dad Tom played for the Cornhuskers in the early 1970's and later in the National Football League. His younger brother Bo, who currently plays for the New England Patriots, also attended Nebraska. The Ruuds have been called, "The First Family of Nebraska football".[citation needed] His mother Jaime Ruud died of a massive heart attack on June 30, 2006.
Barrett's cousins Tony and Andy Brinkhaus are both offensive linemen for the University of Minnesota football team. Both were star linemen for Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota, where Tom Ruud's number is retired.
Ruud is a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School.

Ruud had a breakout 2007 season, with 114 tackles, four forced fumbles and two interceptions through 16 weeks. He received the Defensive Player of the Month award for September.
