Arlanda Express is an airport rail link connecting Stockholm Central Station with Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, Sweden. Cruising velocity of the trains are 200 km/h (124 mph); the journey takes 20 minutes. Arlanda Express is operated by A-Train who gained a concession from the state of 30 years after completion of the railway line in 1999.
The company operates seven X3 electric multiple units on the two railways Norra Stambanan and Arlandabanan. The first line, from Stockholm C to Skavstaby is owned by Banverket while Arlandabanan is owned by the state, but built by A-Train. It departs 4–6 times per hour with tickets costing SEK 200 for adults, making stops at two of the three railway stations at Arlanda, Arlanda North and Arlanda South.
The government's motivation for building the rail link was to facilitate future traffic growth at Arlanda with the construction of a third runway, while limiting the total emissions of the airport to the environment. Electric trains were chosen because they are nearly emission-free vehicles.
