Animus (also known as the Hate-Monger) is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe.
[edit] Fictional character biography
Animus' may be a mutant or mutated human, the spawn of the cosmic Lord Chaos or Master Hate, or something else altogether. It provided advanced weaponry and costumes in a plan to regather the Sons of the Serpent to spread hatred and violence throughout New York City, coming into conflict with the Avengers and the New Warriors. It also targeted Nomad (Jack Monroe).
The Hate Monger later supplied high-tech weapons to a street gang. The Hate-Monger led the Sons of the Serpent and HYDRA against streets gangs, resulting in another conflict with War Machine. It next assaulted the hero Justice, exploiting Justice and his mother's hatred of Vance for having accidentally killed his own abusive father. Re-naming itself Animus, it fed off tensions among the Hulk, Bruce Banner, Angela Lipscombe, and Doc Samson.
