[edit] Barnstar
The Original Barnstar | ||
I, Valentinian hereby award you with this barnstar in appreciation of your work in general, your vandalism fighting, your fine pictures and your neverending good cheer. Valentinian T / C 14:38, 29 May 2007 (UTC) |
- It was about time that I repaid your kindness, so please consider this barnstar to be overdue :) All the best. Valentinian T / C 14:38, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Roshambo
I only heard of the term roshambo (which apparently comes from the french polynesian Ro Sham Beaux), when I got to college, but it is a very common name for RPS in certain regions and cultures. (on facebook, red bull created the "roshambull" application, which allows players to challenge their friends to a game of roshambo). -Bonus Onus 16:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

- Yeah, it's facebook the website. Quite popular among college students in the US. Bonus Onus 16:54, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Bureaucracy
I dunno. I am a big victim of AGFitis, so it may be best to ask someone else. ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 17:49, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I looked through the diffs and I think trying to duplicate sections is, at best, warning-worthy. Nackontari has already blocked the IP, however. ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 17:54, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
-
- I didn't check the contributions, so in this case I think this IP should be blocked and the master IP (a sock of a vandal) should be blocked as well (since it has expired). ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 17:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

- Something doesn't add up here: Serafin, the puppetmaster was blocked anon. only indef, however, a sock of Serafin's, User:131.104.218.46, which used 131.104.218.102 to evade a block, was somehow still editing (before the most recent block) under 131.104.218.102. Of course, 131.104.218.102 could have been an IP from a computer not used by Serafin, or it could be a dynamic ISP. I hope that wasn't too confusing. ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 18:11, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

- Whois results tell wonders. Anyway, I don't think a whole rangeblock is in order, rather check the contribs and list the troublesome vandals who have not been blocked/has had their block expired at ANI as they are probably socks of Serafin. ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 18:23, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A huge thank you to Angelbo
From shanalk. I followed your advice completely re: the image on the ki longfellow page. Now, I wait to see it it is deleted or not. I hope not. Again, thank you!!! Shanalk 23:16, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks and Sorry about that
Hi, I'm from that IP address that you sent a message to, and I'm sorry about the minor vandalism. I'm actually a big user of wikipedia (well, not really a USER, but by user I mean observer) and I would never want to do such a thing. I was actually just seeing how long it would take for it to be caught and it seems it doesn't take long at all! Sorry for the whole thing!

[edit] Danish Project
Hi Mads, Thank you for your invitation. I had the pleasure of visiting Denmark in 1987 -- hence my interest -- but I am really not much of an expert on things Danish! I don't own any CDs by Burnin' Red Ivanhoe. And when I went to Tivoli, I saw Johnny Cash, not anybody Danish! Varlaam 04:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC) [Dave in Toronto]
[edit] Image tags
Thanks for your help. I wish more people would state something like this than simply put a tag on something and expect everyone else to figure it out for themselves. Squad51 13:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

[edit] Odense Uni
Hej Mads
Tak for mailen. [edit] British Isles
Ireland never has and never will be british therefore the name british isles in relation to Ireland is offensive and incorrect it is not an accepted name in Ireland and around the world and is not an official name so I would like to keep it that way by not associating Ireland with britain and contributing to that myth. Please do not try and contribute to this myth as it would be highly offensive to me and the people of Ireland who have fought and died to keep Ireland Irish.

[edit] The Danish military template
I didn't mean it could be used commercially (EG. As a SPAM), rather that it was an image licence template with "Non-commercial" terms in it (Namely the last two sentences "The materials may be reproduced for non-commercial purposes. For commercial purposes a written permission must be obtained."), which have been outlawed for a while now (EG. {{CC-nd}} redirects to a CSD template). 68.39.174.238 22:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry
I don't know if this is an appropriate place to write this, but I don't know how else to contact you. You sent me a message regarding my 'vandalism' of a particular page earlier. My sincere apologies about that; I had no idea it would be caught in a matter of seconds as it was. In fact, I'm a university professor, and was showing my students, in real time, how easy it is to modify information on Wikipedia. Since it was an entry about our own university, and since I was going to fix it myself within no more than 2 minutes, I didn't think it would even be noticed by anyone.
In any case, I am sorry for any inconvenience. And thank you for your good work! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.168.185.68 (talk) 13:15, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Dear Teacher
- To answer your first question, yes a user talk page is the correct place to make contact with a particular user/editor. I am curious to know what university subject requires wiki editing?
- Have you considered getting an account?
- Best regards Mads Angelbo Talk / Contribs 17:42, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

- Reply from User talk:210.168.185.68
- Thank you for the reply. I do have an account, and will be happy to let you know what it is privately, but I'm not entirely sure how to do that.
-
- The day I made that change I wasn't logged in, because I wanted to show my students just how easy it is for anyone to add information. In retrospect, it was ill-advised for me to make the addition a joke--again, sorry about that--but rest assured that I do highlight the point that students need to be responsible when editing information.
-
- To answer your other question, I teach literature. My students often turn to Wikipedia first when they are working on a research paper. Unlike some other academics, I don't think this is a bad thing, in fact I encourage it; however, Japanese students do tend to be somewhat naively trusting of *any* published material, so I was highlighting the fact that, because Wikis are cooperative, one can't always assume that articles are written and carefully edited by experts in the field.
-
- In other courses, in which I teach EFL, I have assigned projects where students must add to or create a new page on a Japan-related subject which they know well. It's a great way to get them to use English in an authentic way.
-
- Thanks for the interest, and best regards!

[edit] Thanks for the invitation
Thanks for inviting me to join the WikiDenmark project. Unfortunately, I'm declining because I don't really have time for it - I already think I'm using more time on Wikipedia than I should. And anyway, I'm more interested in some other areas like photography, and prefer to use my Wikipedia time for "hit and run" editing here and there. But it was nice of you to ask. --RenniePet 16:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Would you please consider adding HDMS Thetis F357.jpg to the Wikimedia Commons and the category Thetis-class (Denmark) there?
