Andarín Carvajal

Félix de la Caridad Carvajal y Soto, known as Andarín Carvajal (March 18, 1875 – January 27, 1949) was a famous Cuban runner.
He was born in San Antonio de los Baños and died in Havana. Where he lived and died in absolute poverty.
During his life he became famous for his running endurance, and died being a popular character in Havana. Before the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri, he begged for money in the streets to pay himself a ticket. He participated in the Olympic marathon and was leading the race, till he found a tree of apples, and ate some, as he had been more than 40 hours without food. After strong stomac-ache, he stopped for a while, and finally finished 4th.
