Alexis Flores (born June 18, 1975, in Honduras) was added to the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on June 2, 2007. He is believed to be responsible for the rape and murder of five-year-old Iriana DeJesus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DeJesus disappeared on July 29, 2000, and her body was found five days later on August 3 in an apartment basement.
At the time, no one knew the identity of the killer. He was only identified as Carlo or Carlos, a homeless drifter who took shelter with a nearby resident who wanted Carlos to get “back on his feet”. The sketch of Flores was profiled on America's Most Wanted numerous times as he was wanted for questioning. However, “Carlos” was long gone.
In March 2007, a DNA sample from a convicted criminal in Phoenix, Arizona came back as a match to the DNA found at Iriana's crime scene. Detectives went to investigate a minor noise complaint. When they arrived, Flores answered the door and gave them some fake identification. This led to his most recent known arrest. His DNA was positively matched in March of 2007 to DNA left at the crime scene (in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). The match took so long because there was no DNA sample of Flores until 2006, when his DNA sample was added to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). That sample was the result of a DNA sample taken by the state of Arizona, which arrested him in November 2004 on forgery charges for possessing a fake ID card, a felony in that state. Prior to Flores being matched by DNA, the only name given to a possible suspect was "Carlos". Whether this was an alias used by Flores or simply speculatory is unknown. Although he hasn’t been seen since 2005 he is now known as the killer of DeJesus.
The official charges on his FBI Ten Most Wanted poster are "Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution – Kidnapping, Murder". According to a profile of him done on America's Most Wanted, he is also alleged to have raped DeJesus before killing her.
The FBI believes he may be in his native Honduras, where he was deported to after serving time for the Arizona forgery charge in May 2005. It is also possible he may have returned to the United States, as he was an illegal alien at the time of his forgery arrest. He is known to represent himself as younger than he actually is, giving birth dates as recent as 1982.
Prior to becoming an FBI "Top Tenner," he was named to America's Most Wanted's "Dirty Dozen" by host John Walsh.
The FBI reward for information leading to his capture is up to US$100,000.
