Agustín Gaínza

Agustín Gaínza Vicandi (born May 28, 1922 in Basauri, Vizcaya; died January 6, 1995) was a Spanish/Basque footballer and coach. Also known as Piru. He played as a forward for Atlético Bilbao and Spain. Between 1940 and 1959 he made 381 La Liga appearances, scoring 120 goals. He also served as club captain and played in a record nine Copa del Generalísimo finals. He won 33 caps, scoring 10 goals, for Spain, making his debut in 1945 and captaining them to a fourth place in the 1950 World Cup. He retired as a player in 1959. He subsequently coached both Bilbao Atlético and then Atlético Bilbao between 1964 and 1969, guiding the club to vivtory in the Copa del Generalísimo in his final year.
