[edit] Sigma Chi
Did you get that userbox from me? If so, that's fine: I stole it from another fraternity! In Hoc! Scoutersig 20:55, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Feel free to use the 'real' userbox: just put in {{User Sigma Chi}} and go! Scoutersig 15:52, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- See this per your message. -Scoutersig
Can you do what you did with the Notable Sig alumni and make it the same type of thing with the list of chapters? I don't think that belongs on the main page and I don't know how to do it.
If you want to add colony information to the List of Sigma Chi chapters, then you should check The Magazine: in the back should be a list of all chapters' contact info, and then colonies too. "Interest groups" won't be listed, but you could email HQ, I suppose. —ScouterSig 15:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
If you email HQ, they can send you really high-resolution images of the badge, crest, flag, etc. Those would be really good to put up. —ScouterSig 06:21, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- Brother, I just added a "Theology" section to the notable Sigs page, seeing how good your Education section is. I found a website run by a Sig on faculty at Sam Houston, [1]; you might check it out for famous Sigs. IHSV! —ScouterSig 16:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- When did the List of Sigma Chi chapters page go to a state-by-state system, and why? And how the heck did I miss that, haha?? —ScouterSig 03:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Valencia.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Valencia.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok ☠ 18:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greek Life Template 2.0
OK, I've added ratings and ranking to the proposed template for Fraternities and Sororities, with the requirements to be found on the appropriate page. We're waiting on a transparent picture; is there anything else to be done to this template? I'd like to give it another week or so before making it an official template. Just leave some comments on the template talk page for the template. —ScouterSig 02:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Themileafter.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Themileafter.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Rationale For Importance Rating
The reasoning behind the "Top" Importance rating I gave to the Kappa Alpha Society page was given in the edit notes. All modern collegiate fraternities exist to either oppose or emulate the Society, therefore, being the forerunner and founder of the fraternal system with regards to higher education, it should be accorded the highest importance rating. This is not merely vicarious ego stroking, but instead is done for those interested in the history of college fraternities. A thorough knowledge of the history and practices of the Society will lead others to a better understanding of the Greek system as a whole. So regardless of what the WikiProject chart regarding fraternities has to say, I am changing the talk page project box to reflect the importance of the Society, for without KA there would be no Greek system as we know and understand it today. Matthew Cadrin 15:39, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- Looking back at what you say above really makes me question your motives in this article. I'm guessing you are a brother of the Kappa Alpha Order and very proud, but you are making that too important in your editing. You are making claims that all Greek life exists because of it(if you say you arent look at the history at talk:Kappa Alpha Order. You say "All modern collegiate fraternities exist to either oppose or emulate the Society, therefore, being the forerunner and founder of the fraternal system with regards to higher education, it should be accorded the highest importance rating." I have never heard this in my life and I have yet to see a piece of literature claiming this either. Not only does this statement sound ignorant but it is complete ego stroking. And if "A thorough knowledge of the history and practices of the Society will lead others to a better understanding of the Greek system as a whole.", why is the history on the page so short and bland only going as far to say everything emulates it. I hope you can come back here to discuss this and tell me where this information comes from. Acidskater 17:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- First, you are confusing the Kappa Alpha Order with the Kappa Alpha Society, they are very distinct and wholly separate organizations. Secondly, the most well-known and widely circulated literature confirming my viewpoint would be Baird's Manual of Fraternities. If you would like, I could head over to the library, pick up a copy and cite where exactly I found this information. Additionally, there are a number of internet news articles restating this same information and I have heard anecdotal evidence of other fraternities' pledge manuals with this same history. I was under the impression, obviously mistakenly, that this was common knowledge. As for the article itself, it is short and bland, there is work in progress to improve it substantially. In the meantime, I will gladly compromise at a rating of "High" and will endeavour to improve the article while answering any questions and addressing any concerns you may have. I would ask though, that you do some footwork of your own and confirm for yourself what I have said, you will find the information readily available and in accord with what I have previously stated. Matthew Cadrin 18:36, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- I am very happy you responded and will look this up. I did confuse the names but whenever I referenced something I would go to the Kappa Alpha Society. I was doubtful because I have looked into Greek life quite a bit and had never heard of this claim. The closest I had ever heard was that the Union Triad was the beginning of social Fraternities. I also urge you to join the Wikiproject Fraternities and Sororities. Acidskater 02:54, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Carnage Middle School
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Carnage Middle School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] AfD nomination of I Surrender Records
An editor has nominated I Surrender Records, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/I Surrender Records and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. I just wanted to say good job on adding a great piece to the Sigma Chi article. The organization of a fraternity is important, and you did a great job with the one for Sigma Chi. Jmlk17 07:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Calm Down
I was editing the page as you added those unecessary tags. I had done about an hours worth of work formating the chapter list, and I thought I lost it. I merely copied and pasted my work over the past edit w/o realizing you were adding tags.
Anywho, the information is not controversial, and the main reference was the LKS homepage. Alas, I will add the reference in and fill the page with 1's. [[TheAngriestPharmacist]] 17:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Curiousity
Hey buddy. I hope you don't mind me asking a non-Wiki question, but I'm just finding myself curious. May I ask why you chose Sigma Chi as your fraternity? I'm asking you, since we seem to be on the same level regarding fraternities, and have no ill will against our respective organizations. There is/was Sigma Chi at my school (was, since I am an alumni now), but I only knew one or two guys, and it was not on a more than "hey man, want a beer?" level. I've been reading your expanding article, and am becoming curious about the fraternity. I hope you don't mind my asking, but you are obvious very knowledgeable about Sigma Chi as a whole. Jmlk17 18:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- Cool! Thanks for the answer(s). Sorry it took me this long to get back to you. Just an FYI, I nominated Sigma Chi for a Good Article status, as I believe the recent edits have really pushed it into a higher category than what it is currently listed under. Hope all's well, and happy editing bro! Jmlk17 05:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability of Sigma Tau Omega
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Sigma Tau Omega, by Metros (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Sigma Tau Omega seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Sigma Tau Omega, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 04:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Greekness" of PBL
Despite the name Phi Beta Lambda, PBL is not a Greek organization. It is a branch of FBLA-PBL and exists as a student organization and not a frat/sorority. Acidskater, you've been putting a lot of (good/great/fantastic!) work into the Sigma Chi page, including many end references. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Goinggreek.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Goinggreek.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:28, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimania in Atlanta!
Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!
P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 22:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP:NPOV edit in Burger King article
You removed the comment that McDonald's was Burger King's largest rival. Why? McD's is the number one fast food burger chain to BK's #2. that was a factual statement you removed.
Jerem43 04:23, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- That statement did not have a source for it and did not follow WP:NPOV. If there is an official statement saying that they are the biggest competitor then it will follow WP:NPOV. Acidskater 05:09, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
-
- Did you look at the opening of each article? The statements are taken directly from that, and those are verified and cited. - Jerem43 23:32, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- It isn't hard to look at the history and see that you added the citations before posting on my page. Thus, my actions were justified and you took the proper steps to allow that statement to be put into the article. It's wikipedia guidelines working at their best. [edit] Going Greek NPOV
Acidskater, there has been some (well, very little) discussion on the talk page for Fraternities and sororities about that article being biased to North America (I agree). I was thinking that to address some concerns, it needed to have a section right before "Greek umbrella organizations" on why people went Greek. It should talk about: grades, philanthropy, social networking, cultural growth (especially for NPHC), and leadership training, at least. But I can't seem to Google any information that is provided at a level larger than one campus, so any statistics I find are not useable. Where do you suggest I look? I'll look for your reponse on my talk page. —ScouterSig 22:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Theta Phi Psi
Do you know anything about this article on Theta Phi Psi? It's from Raleigh, NC, supposedly. —ScouterSig 21:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 'New' famous sigs
Bro, I was able to make this scratchpage of mine have some famous Sigs, according to the version of Baird's on Wikisource. Do you think I'll ever be able to prove any of them, let alone find out Lathrop's first name?? —ScouterSig 05:34, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Brewery page
Hey. I'm not sure I understand the NPOV argument. Everything on the page is factual, and I tried to make sure nothing on there expressed an opinion. Do you have suggestions? —brewery —Preceding comment was added at 13:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject North Carolina
Hello, I noticed that you have associated yourself with WikiProject North Carolina in one way or another and I wanted to say Hi. I have been doing a bit of work on the project and wanted to know if you were still interested. One of the major things that we need help with is article assessment. If you go to NC Article Grading and Ranking you will see that as of 12-25-2007 we have over 2,900 articles that are either unassessed and/or have not been tagged with importance. If you are interested in remaining a part of WikiProject North Carolina, please consider placing the userbox {{User WikiProject North Carolina}} if you have not already done so that others will know that you are a part of this Project as well as ensuring that you are listed on the WP North Carolina Participants. If you are no longer interested in participating in the project, please strike through your name on the WP North Carolina Participant list and/or remove the WikiProject NC Userbox! If you have any questions, please let me know!Rob110178 (talk) 22:49, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sigma Alpha Mu notable members
Thanks for all of your assistance in finding (and supporting) references for the notable members on the Sigma Alpha Mu page. I am new to Wikipedia, so your help was very much appreciated. Hail to Pitt! --PittSammy (talk) 02:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Raven Society article issues
Thanks for calling out the issues with the Raven Society article. I've tried to do some cleanup -- in your assessment, are there other NPOV or citation issues with the article at this time? Tjarrett (talk) 20:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi--could you take another look at Raven Society and see if we still have NPOV issues on the article? I don't want to remove the tag unless you're OK with it. Tjarrett (talk) 19:46, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pitt deletion
A Pitt related page, Oakland Zoo (cheering section), has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are important. Please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oakland Zoo (cheering section) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Phikapcoat.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Phikapcoat.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:15, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Any idea on how I can respond to this without breaking the Three Revert Rule? Yes, if he is a Significant Sig, surely he's "important," but if he doesn't have a wikipedia article, then he's not notable (rough rule, not strict). What should I do? —OverMyHead 18:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
