Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus (colloquially called Pisay Davao) is a campus of the Philippine Science High School System, a special public high school in the Philippines. It caters to scientifically- and mathematically-gifted high school students from all over the country. It is located in Davao City.
PSHS-SMC started as a very humble school, having its beginnings at the Philippine Coconut Authority grounds in Bago Oshiro, Mintal, Davao City. It started with a limited number of classrooms and a handful of scholars who sat on the floor for a few months. Despite the scarcity of resources, the school was officially founded on July 8, 1988.
However, due to the increasing number of students, the school administration decided to construct a larger school area in Tugbok District. By 1990, the new building's infrastructure was already built. In chronological order, the classroom building, the faculty building, the girls dormitory, the canteen, the boys dormitory, the gymnasium, the classroom wing, and the administrative building were constructed.
By 1995, the school grounds' muddy and asphalt lanes were cemented, the gardens were replanted and redesigned, and cleanliness was maintained. The school surroundings gradually evolved into a park. Years after, a spacious gymnasium was put up at the back of the boys dormitory. You have to cross a small cement bridge before reaching the gym.
[edit] Class Sections
Each class (batch) is divided into three sections, each with at most 30 students (in recent years, usually with a balanced sex ratio). As students progress from one year level to another, section assignments are reshuffled making it impossible to have exactly the same set of classmates for the entire four-year program.
