Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

Oh, and by the way, the 2+2 link is fine. Those of us who look over the poker pages are familiar with 2+2. Cheers. CryptoDerk 00:39, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Philip, I made some edits at World Wide Wiki to respond to your questions. Best, MarkDilley

Thanks, Mark, looks good. - PhilipR 13:43, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Christian punk

Thanks for taking the time to give this article the rewrite it needed. I went ahead and removed the {{POV check}} tag because that article doesn't need it anymore. I also moved the "Previous content" section to the talk page. sɪzlæk [ +t, +c ] 08:43, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] List of famous people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder

Re: Your note on my talk page user talk:noe: I think you are right, it is about time to kill this experiment (after a proper VfD, of course). It would have been a different matter if the list had solidified into a few well documented or well annotated cases, rather than an endless list of idle speculation (which is what it seems to be, but honestly I havn't really checked anything). I'm not sure I will vote, though — I appear in the page history simply because I chanced to drop by the page one day and saw something I could improve, even without being an expert.

[edit] Wikicities

I really have no idea. It's probably more a question of how much extra info is there than how "ailve" the project is. --SPUI (talk) 17:48, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Poker Wiki

Looks good. I doubt if I'll find my way over there as I really haven't done much work on poker stuff since I wrote all those biographies 6 months ago. My time is now mainly split between CDVF and WP:PMEX. Since I have a good feel for stuff here and reactions, let me say that some things you can do over there that you might not be able to do here include:

  • Writing detailed info about all the online poker places. I think we have the major ones here, but it'd be nice to stay on the forefront of such things.
  • Writing biographies of "semi-notable" players. For instance, I took a bit of flak for writing an article on David Pham, and he even won a WSOP bracelet!
  • Any sort of "how-to". Because Wikipedia is not a how-to guide, if someone tried to write a how-to, or any sort of "original research", like analysis of styles of various poker players, etc. we'd likely send it off to Wikibooks or something.

I'm sure you've already thought of all this. If you're looking to recruit people, you might want to try User:Furrykef who is a semi-pro player, has worked on a lot of various wiki projects, and I liked his work enough to nominate him for admin here. Also, if you're looking for media, text, etc. you may want to contact David Schwartz who runs the WSOP retrospective ( http://gaming.unlv.edu/WSOP/ ). I contacted him a while back to get permission for images and he was very nice and told me I could use anything from the site in accordance with the GFDL. If you explained that wikicities is a Wikimedia project he'd likely give you the same permission. CryptoDerk 16:24, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] AfD for List of famous people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder

The new discussion over deletion of List of famous people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder was constructed on top of the old closed discussion. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of famous people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (second nomination) has been created and the new discussion has been moved there and the old page has been reverted to the original closed state.--blue520 13:54, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cafú

I am sure that it is surely read with long "u" at the end. Also I saw his name written as Cafú in a few rosters. - Darwinek 07:17, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:WC squad lists and the DRY principle

Hi Philip! Thanks a lot for your message, I was kinda down nobody supported my idea of templated squads. We might give it a try again after the world cup. Hm, I wasn't very satisfied with the match against Ivory Coast, but at least we won; hope we find our game soon. Take care, and good wiking, Mariano(t/c) 08:00, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Self-reference in the DRY article

Good sentiment you have with your non-repetition Wikipedia initiative, but I don't think it belongs in a mainspace article. Check out my note on the discussion page... ~ Booya Bazooka 21:34, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Squad templates and DRY, redux

Hi! I saw that the third milestone for the WikiData project is september 1 (for testing). Certanly hope it works fine, and people get used to this new format. Good wiking, Mariano(t/c) 07:55, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I stumbled across your user page from your posts on Talk:2006 FIFA World Cup (squads) and am interested to learn more about your proposal. Would you mind letting me know more about your plan either here or by email? --Pkchan 17:02, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure you get what was I talking about: check Wikidata/Notes and Wikidata/Timetable. Mariano(t/c) 08:07, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. It's true that they are new to me and I find them interesting (and aligned with what I imagined was going on). May I know more about the current status of the project? (btw, it appears that the Milestone 3 deadline is on year 2005, not September 2006) --Pkchan 14:56, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don't lose hope

Philip - User:2005 has exactly as much authority regarding poker articles as you or I do. If he doesn't want to collaborate, that's his business, but it should shouldn't stop you from doing anything that you think would be mutually beneficial to these two projects. Do you have any particular collaborative efforts in mind? Time permitting, I would be happy to help out. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 23:02, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Oops, I noticed an important typo in this, several days later. I have corrected it. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 23:47, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Wally tGM

Sure thing. I reverted your edits as the term "obviously fictional" is not encyclopedic. It's clear from the article that the mascot is just that; a mascot. I hope that my reversion doesn't deter you from being bold and editing at your whim, as you're definitely welcomed and encouraged to do so. Cheers! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 05:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I have no idea if it's a direct quote. I've added the "citation needed" template at the end of the blurb and tweaked the header a bit, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction. Feel free to edit it again if you think it needs more tweaking hoopydinkConas tá tú? 06:03, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
The manual of style says to avoid special characters in headings, but your insertion of "According to the Sox media department..." looks good, as it mentions that the mascot is a created character of the Sox. If we could find a quote to verify this, that'd be a great addition to the section as well hoopydinkConas tá tú? 06:09, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Good stuff. Cheers mate! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 06:14, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Double/treble

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out an appropriate compromise here. To me, there are a lot of MLS fans who see the SS and the Cup as the most sensible US-specific definition of the "double" - but then there are the traditionalists who feel that only winning the national cup competition and the league counts as a "double". An uber-traditionalist could even make some sort of argument for the Open Cup plus the SS being the true double. I think there are valid arguments for any combination, and that your version (any two of the three major honors) is probably best. At any rate, I guess we'll eventually end up compromising by just describing the controversy, rather than enforcing any single definition of the term. Bill Oaf 01:58, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Years at UF

I don't care how many yars we want to say Meyer has been at UF; I just want it to be consistant. The 2006 Colorado Buffaloes football team lists most of their coaches at 0 years at Colorado. If you want to change Meyer to two years, that is fine by me. But just add a year to everyone else in that case, since all but one coach came in with him. --WTStoffs 22:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Earl Bennett

Thanks for the compliments-I don't really know what I'm doing, so I just cut and paste and then edit the pasted text. BTW, this is GoDores from Vandysports.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wpride33 (talkcontribs) 22:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] re Interim

Right, fair enough. I guess the only reason I created the article was that I was too lazy to go delink all the links to interim, but I have done so now, and the article can be deleted. Herostratus 05:10, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Avoid weasel words

Yes, of course I agree with you, Philip, I should never have added a discussion section to a project article such as WP:AWW. All I can say is that I certainly must have got carried away there. Apologies, and thanks for moving it to the talk section. Dieter Simon 01:12, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pauley Perrette

I readded the bio information from the CBS site, but I reworded it significantly (sp) so to avoid plagiarism. My apologizes on that. Give it a once over and let me know if any further changes need to be made. If so, I will be glad to change them. - SVRTVDude 07:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
