Talk:Phil Anselmo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
before pantera, phil anselmo was in a band called razor white. i don't know much about them, but i've heard that one of the members of crowbar was also in this band.

Razor White was primarily a cover band that covered Judas Priest songs. You can really tell Rob Halford's style was a big influence on Anselmo, especially on Cowboys From Hell.

[edit] From the mid-nineties to December 2004
What happened to Phil during that time, was it drugs, his back pain or other things that led to some sort of confusion of his?
I really do not like that. I think it's really, really sad. LIllIi 23:32, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

He makes some arguably good points in that speech, even if it's a bit inappropriate for a rock show.
- Care or dare to elaborate on that?! LIllIi 23:32, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
When did phil die in 2005 kind of odd considering I saw him touring with his band this year Down.
[edit] feuds
phil has/had a feud with dave mustaine. i believe he even dissed dave when pantera opened for megadeth. some one should include something about that and any other feuds if he has any.
[edit] cleanup
Article is badly formatted, has incomplete and anachronistic information (or giant holes in the chronology), doesn't cite sources adequately, and is generally a mess.
Also phil isnt dead, and Dimebag is spelled D-I-M-E bag not DIMbag.
I removed the word "Unfortunately" from the last paragraph in the Pantera section because, although we know it was unfortunate, it is POV. BrainRotMenacer 19:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Removal of unsubstantiated/inappropriate material
I removed the short blurb claiming that Phil's voice has been damaged or weakened by chronic drug and alcohol abuse. This is unsubstantiated, uncited, and obviously one person's opinion. Clearly this isn't appropriate for an encyclopedic article. C'mon, you know you can't put this stuff in here.

[edit] table
Somebody fix the motherfucking table in the end of the article, some added "Arson Anthem" without doing it properly.
[edit] Phils Throat
tonight I saw Heaven and Hell with Megadeth and NO DOWN, this was same with yesterday when they didnt play due to Phil having a throat problem in Edmonton. this could be interesting info for the band or whatever, by the way the show fucking slayed The Ravager 06:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pulitzer photo
It should probably be noted in the article that Phil Anselmo was one of the subjects of John Kaplan's 1992 Pulitzer Prize-winning photo essay about the lives of a handful of American 21-year-olds. WesleyDodds 08:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:8809053130595.jpg
I found Image:8809053130595.jpg and noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Someone will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If it was obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If there are other files on this page, consider checking that they have specified their source and are tagged properly, too. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:08, 26 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:8809053130595.jpg
Image:8809053130595.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Singing Style
I think this nees to be cleaned up. in the category it lists him as a falsetto, but the article calls him a tenor head. i think theres a difference.70.106.36.174 18:19, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Insecure Machismo/Anger Management
Someone with more time than me should take the effort to collect materials illustrating that this redneck thug is dumb as a post and liable to swing his fists at anything he thinks is implying that he's unmanly - and for someone with so much, yet so little to prove, it doesn't take much to get him started. He's the archetypal neo-hardcore post-90's caveman vocalist who always takes care to make sure he's always photographed frowning and with a pouty look on his face. He's made unsolicited remarks to interviewers during the early stages of Pantera's breakup that he could easily assault and injure Dimebag Darrel based on their size differences, and can't resist remarking that he has a reputation for having a large penis. Who the hell is he trying to convince with any of that? The man is too rich to be forced into counseling, so he's never going to smarten up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.65.92.40 (talk) 00:12, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
And apparently, he's a racist dipshit, which is equally as uncommon among backwoods southerners as the rest of the above. Scapegoats are easy to find when you're insecure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.65.92.40 (talk) 00:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Apology for Dimebag slurs?
That link to that supposed Youtube video doesn't go anywhere. I tried looking for it everywhere on YT but to no avail. Are you sure he did this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.120.52.87 (talk) 00:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Reverted racism section
I think it is possible to make this assertion about Anselmo and have it be relevant to the article, but it doesn't work as written. First, tone is unencyclopedic and POV. If you're going to make edits that are potentially inflammatory, you really have to do your homework and get this right. Beyond that, the lyrics mentioned are misquoted and, additionally, do not support the theory that Anselmo is a racist. I'm sure that there is evidence to that effect out there, but this is not a good example. Also, adequate sources would go a long way toward making this more palatable. Again, I'm not averse to this section being added in (the whole article needs a lot of work...let's be honest), but if you're going to court controversy, you really should take time to do some research and composition to get the facts straight and the tone right. I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with. Happy editing. NObodyNOWHERE (talk) 06:29, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Weight
Phil's weight is listed as 190lbs here, but it suggests in this interview (http://www.decibelmagazine.com/features/oct2007/down.aspx) he is now 170lbs. I also read an interview in which Rex Brown confirms this is Anselmo's current weight, mentioning that Phil is in better shape than ever. I can't locate this interview with Rex, but there was a link to it on an offical Down MySpace bulletin a few months ago. I've made the amendment, hopefully someone out there read the above mentioned Rex Brown interview and can confirm? DANZIG666 (talk) 17:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Unencyclopedic!
This article is horribly written. There are hardly any citations compared to the vast amount of information, and it's full of opinions and POV comments. I'd help try to fix it but I don't have the time, but I urge others to, please! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.20.241.104 (talk) 04:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. The article has never been in particularly good shape, but it's completely out of control right now. I appreciate that people want to improve it, but adding a million totally irrelevant facts and half-baked original research isn't going to do the trick. The damage is far too extensive to be fixed right now, but I'll try to do some repair work in the near future. NObodyNOWHERE (talk) 06:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
