Philippsthal is a municipality in the district Hersfeld-Rotenburg, in Hesse, Germany.

Philippsthal is situated along the Werra River between the foothills of the Rhön Mountains and the Thuringian Forest, close to the border to Thuringia.
Larger cities near to the muncipiality are Bad Hersfeld (about 25 km to the west) and Eisenach (about 29 km to the east).
