KJAQ (96.5 FM) is a commercial radio station located in Seattle, Washington. KJAQ airs an adult hits music format branded as "Jack FM".

[edit] History

The 96.5 frequency has a rich history in Seattle: From the early 1970's (employing the quadraphonic sound for a short time) until 1977 played R&B as KYAC. In 1977 the call letters switched to KYYX and they were Top-40 until late 1982 when the station flipped to New Wave. In 1984 the call letters and format changed yet again, this time to soft AC (Adult Contemporary) as KKMI. Early in 1987, 96.5 turned into KXRX, a personality-driven album rock station (Robin & Maynard mornings, Larry Snyder mid-days, Crow & West afternoon drive, Beau Roberts evenings, and Scott Vanderpool overnight). This lasted until 1994 when the format went Country. In 1999 the station changed its format into an 1980s-driven one, known as "The Point 96.5". The call letters became KYPT as well. In 2003, it flipped to Classic Alternative KRQI K-Rock 96.5. K-Rock never made it in the ratings, so it flipped to Adult Hits Jack FM in 2005. As Jack Seattle the format is unusual in that it has no DJ personalities on-air.
