User talk:59.101.21.229
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello, Either you are a new user, or you are an existing user coming back under a different IP address. In either case, the standard over all of Wikipedia is to use "football (soccer)". Please do not change it to anything else. Where an article is solely about the sport, it can be called "football" later on in the article - this applies equally to other sports with "football" as part of their name. Your comment about Australia vs British English is not applicable - it is called "football" by a sizable part of the Australian community. I will not go into details as this discussion has been done to death and there are plenty of records of it throughout Wikipedia, such as Talk:Football (soccer), Talk:Football (soccer) in Australia, and Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Football in Australia). -- Chuq (talk) 08:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
Welcome!
Hello, 59.101.21.229, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- Tutorial
- How to edit a page
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}}
before the question. Again, welcome!
I'll offer one piece of advice though - going through various pages changing 'football (soccer)' to 'soccer (football)' is an odd way to start your editing contributions. You might find other more productive ways of improving articles. ;) Dibo T | C 11:13, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Sport in Australia. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. See fate of User:Elvisandhismagicpelvis to find out where this is going. -- Mark Chovain 07:53, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make any unconstructive edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant warnings.
[edit] Sports in Australia
Your research is unfortunately of no use what-so-ever (see WP:OR). This argument has been done to death with the series of sock-puppets that were User:Elvisandhismagicpelvis.
Importantly, there is no concensus for your change, which means it should be left as is. I don't care which one is more "correct"; I have no preference. Bun if everyone came in and changed bits to what they felt were more correct, we'd get nothing done.
You are edit warring. That's disruptive, and will get you blocked if you keep doing it. If you are User:Elvisandhismagicpelvis, then you already know where this is going (and you'll only be marking your new ISP for future checkusers). If you are not, then please find another part of the encyclopaedia, and work constructively to improve it. This whole "soccer/football" thing is only going to get you blocked. -- Mark Chovain 21:24, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
