Shane Montgomery , a Newark, Ohio native, is the head football coach of the Miami University RedHawks of the Mid-American Conference. His overall record as a collegiate head coach is 15-21. Montgomery attended Newark Catholic High School where he helped the Green Wave to two state championships.

Shane Montgomery played quarterback for the North Carolina State University Wolfpack in the late 1980s. Shane ended his career with 5,298 yards passing and 31 touchdowns but his most impressive stat may be his 535 yards passing versus Duke in 1989, which still stands as N.C. State's single-game record. [1] He was also named MVP of both the 1988 Peach Bowl and 1989 Copper Bowl.

As an assistant he helped develop several NFL players including Ben Roethlisberger and Terrell Owens. Montgomery's first job as an assistant coach was at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1993-2000. He moved to Division I-A Miami University in Oxford, Ohio as an offensive coordinator for Terry Hoeppner in 2001.

After spending 4 years as an assistant at Miami University Shane Montgomery became the RedHawks’ 32nd Head Coach succeeding Terry Hoeppner who became Head Coach of Indiana University. In his first year the RedHawks posted a 7-4 record including a tie for 1st place in the MAC East division. University of Akron won the tie breaker and represented the East in the MAC Championship Game.
