Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar

Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar, Muar Science School or simply SAMURA or SMS Muar is a Malaysian public residential school located in Muar, Johor, Malaysia. It is the only government funded school in the Muar district bearing the title Science School.
The school was established on May 31, 1983 in Tanjung Agas, Muar, Johor, on a 42-acre site. 204 first-former students registered that day. In the following month, a second group of 421 students under the sponsorship of Malaysian Department of Civil Service registered to undergo TOEFL preparation course for overseas universities. A third group of students, consisting of 175 fourth-former students, registered on September 1, 1983.
The school no longer enrolls first formers. Beginning in 1988, the school has only accepted fourth formers, except for a period from 1991 to 1994 when it received upper and lower sixth formers.
In 1992, the school achieved a 100% grade one result in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (Malaysia Certificate of Education). From 1995 until May 2000, the school has been chosen to provide a matriculation programme for Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Since then, the school has only fourth and fifth formers.
In 2005 till 2007, the school achieved the no.1 ranks for SPM examinations in johor school for 3 consecutive years, beating other SBP schools like Sekolah Tun Fatimah in Johore Bahru and Sekolah Menengah Sains Johor in Kluang.
The school also won the drama competition in the HKSBP southern zone in 2007, once again beating the proud Sekolah Tun Fatimah. One of the students in Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar achieved 3rd place in the pidato competitions in national level.
In 2008, Farah Nabilah won the zone public speaking championship. In the District Finals, Farah Nabilah finished 5th behind Mohamed Jahangir bin Mohamed Iqbal. In the Malay Pidato competition, the school emerged champion again in district finals and took 3rd in the state. The school also finished 4th in the district drama competition. As for the Malay Debate competition between residential schools, the school made it into the second round before crashing to Shah Pekan, who went on to lose in the semis. The school also fielded a strong English debaters consisting of Mohamed Jahangir, Ain Nabilah, Farah Nabilah and Insyirah.
Sekolah menengah sains muar also has the best editorial crew for 2008, led by Muhd Idzham as the chief editor and Muhd Faiz as the deputy chief editor. Graphics editor Muhd Khaidir, Muhd Faezuddin, Ubaidillah and Muhd Syahir. Cartoonist Muhd Akhbar and co-secretary Syed Mohamed. The editorial board has selected a unique theme for the 2008 school magazine to make it one of a kind among other yearbooks of malaysian fully residential school. The yearbook will be out late 2008. It will feature the best design produce and interesting facts about the school and beautiful girls. the editorial board members also consist of girls who are very dedicated in their work.
