Ryan Benjamin Rowland-Smith (born January 26, 1983 in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian baseball player who pitches for the Seattle Mariners. He pitched for Australia in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He is also pitched for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League.
Rowland-Smith made his major league debut for the Mariners on June 22, 2007, against the Cincinnati Reds at Safeco Field. He struck out the first batter he faced, Ken Griffey, Jr., and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a 16-1 Mariners loss.
He is the first player with a hyphenated last name ever to appear in a Major League game.[1]
