The alternative group - alt.music.white-power - was taken over by trolls at the end of 1999 and has been continuously occupied ever since.
Their technique seems to be pastiche; where fans of white power music tended to post messages in capital letters littered with spelling mistakes and parroted diatribes against Africans and Jews, the group's trolls took these tendencies to their absurd extreme.
In general, newsgroups no longer appear a convenient haven for white supremacists, although racism flourishes.
