Naitasiri is a Province of Fiji. It is one of the country's fourteen Provinces, and one of eight based in Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island.

[edit] Geography and infrastructure

Naitasiri as a province covers 1,666 square kilometers, the Province occupies the area to the north and east of (but does not include) Suva, the capital. Its population at the last census in 1996 was 126,641, making Naitasiri the country's second most populous Province. Its main urban area is the burgeoning town of Nasinu, with a population of some 84,000.

Naitasiri Province includes Naitasiri District, as well as Lomaivuna, Waimaro, and Wainimala Districts. Naitasiri is governed by a Provincial Council, chaired by Ratu Solomoni Boserau.

Well-known Naitasiri residents include "Ratu" Inoke Takiveikata, the Qaranivalu (Paramount Chief) of Naitasiri District and a former Cabinet Minister and Senator, who is now serving a life-sentence for his role in a mutiny connected with the Fiji coup of 2000. Jone Naqica, from the village of Nawaisomo who plays rugby for the US national rugby team.
