[edit] Music videos

Three music videos have been made for "Mr. Brightside" - the first being just a simple black and white video of The Killers performing the song intertwined with shots of a woman. The second, a Moulin Rouge!-inspired video,[citation needed] filmed in the setting of a turn-of-the-century bordello, was directed by Sophie Muller and starred Eric Roberts and Izabella Miko. The third was made in cooperation with MTV2 and NCSoft using graphics from NCSoft's MMORPG Lineage 2. It originally aired in MTV2's "Video Mods" segment and is now being used by NCSoft to promote Lineage 2. This third video also sees consistent airplay in both MTV Europe and MTV Asia[citation needed].

[edit] Commercial

"Mr. Brightside" has reached number one in the charts of various countries. It was a number 10 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Singles Chart. The song was also nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, but it lost to a live version of "This Love" by Maroon 5. The song was featured on the show, Jamie Oliver's School Dinners, a televised advertisement for JJB circa 2003, a Latin American commercial for Pantene hair products in 2007 and a Lifestyle Sports ad in Ireland around the time of its release. "Mr. Brightside" also features in the 2006 film The Holiday written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Amanda (played by Cameron Diaz) dances to the song alone on her first night in England.

The song structure itself is rather unusual for a pop song, discarding the standard verse-chorus-bridge style for a da capo al coda structure.

The song's Jacques Lu Cont remix also appeared on OST of Keinohrhasen, a German Romance film starring Til Schweiger. The song has been covered by the Swing Jazz singer Paul Anka on his 2007 album Classic Songs, My Way.
