[edit] Expansion

Some flags are missing, some are missing their descriptions. Anyway, there's a lot missing. Any contributions are welcome. Suggestions:

  • National: Flags prior to January 27, 1870, if there were any (considering Japan was initially rather isolationist).
  • Imperial: The Emperor's wife and children have their own similar but different standards.
  • Military: Any war-time/feudal army flags that may have existed.
  • Prefectural: Missing flags/descriptions.
  • Municipal: There's hundreds of these, probably more with any past mergers/dissolutions. It's unlikely the list will ever be complete in one place, but please add any you can think of.
  • Historical: Probably too broad of a category.

Compare to the organization of other countries's lists (Template:Lists of flags, like the UK which is particularly detailed, also US, USSR/Russia, China, France).

Other flags which could be included:

  • Daimyos: neither imperial nor necessarily military.
  • Native, religious.
  • Symbolic/conceptual, not necessarily national but somehow related to Japan through use or creation. See: List of flags

[edit] Mon

I suggest that the Mon symbols be removed from the article or be created a list for it. A Mon is an heraldic element, not a vexillological one.

And over half of them are fair use, so they are just for decoration. I support their removal. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Fukuoka Symbol.svg

Image:Fukuoka Symbol.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
