There are ancient instances where J changed to D. We have examples where Kamboja changed to Kambodia/Cambodia, Kamboji raga also is found written as Kambodi (or Kambhodi) etc. So change from J to D is possible.

Also change from J to R is possible since Sanskrit term Kubja changed to Kubra.

K change to Kh , B change to Bh are also normal.

Change from A to O and O to U is also possible in Indo-Iranian languages.

Thus, trasmutation from Kamboja to classical terms like Komedes, Komroi/Khomroi, Komoi is possible on popular etymology even though linguistically these changes may not strictly meet the criteria of linguistics (Kambojdesh ==> Kambodesh == > Kamdesh == >Komdesh == > Komdei == > Komedes etc)

The following may not be impossible on popular etymology:

Kamboja ==> Kamboda == > Kambuda == > Kamuda == > Kumuda

Kamboja root Kam in the Saka area:.

Kam is important root of Kamboja. The Root is numerously found in the Saka area in Central Asia.

The vast expanses of regions on either side of Oxus still carry the umistakeable root Kam of Kamboj as in the Kazal-kam and Kara-kam. This verifies Kamboja influence in the so-called Saka area.

Also, Kamma' or Kama is the name of a tributary to Volga in Russian Steppes

The norh-westerwards movement of Kamboj (Asii) can also be conjectured from this name of Kamma/Kama.
