[edit] Story
Four thousand years ago, in China, a form of Kenpō martial arts was developed, the Beast-Fist (獣拳 Jūken?) style was created by a man named Brusa Ee who built the hidden Beast Origin Village (獣源郷 Jūgenkyō?). Beast-Fist is a martial art in which one mimics the abilities of animals as well as reach spiritual peace. However, dissent grew among the creator's ten students. Three believed that they should use the suffering and hatred harnessed within humans to increase their power, using their power to assume their monstrous forms, the Three Fist Demons. After Brusa Ee was murdered, the Fist Demons gathered followers to practice an evil form of the Beast-Fist style known as Confrontation Beast-Fist Akugata. The other seven students believed that true strength should come from within, engaging their former friends in a great war, ending the fight with a forbidden technique to seal the Fist Demons' powers at the cost of losing their own human forms in the process, becoming the Seven Fist Sages. Followers of the Fist Sages created the Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts school: the Beast-Fist of justice whose sport discipline enhances the human body with the self-produced positive Qi [β] called "Fierce Ki." It is taught by Grand Master Sha-Fu, one of the seven Fist Sages, using a sports goods company named "SCRTC" as a front. By present time, a fallen student from the Fierce Beast-Fist school named Rio turns to the Confrontation Beast Fist-style, rebuilding the Confrontation Beast Hall and bring the long-dead Confrontation Beast-Fist users back to life as kyonshi to collect Confrontation Ki, Fierce Ki's polar opposite Qi, in order to resurrect the Three Fist Demons so that through them, he can become stronger. To fight the new Confrontation Beast Hall, Sha-Fu had been training two youths: Ran Uzaki and Retsu Fukami. Along with Jan Kandou, a feral boy raised by tigers in the woods near the hidden village, the Gekiranger team is formed and later joined by two other Fierce Beast users to save the world from the Akugata's ambitions. However, an even greater evil is using the two sides for its own agenda.
[edit] Production
In a final message to the fans, producer Hideaki Tsukada (塚田 英明 Tsukada Hideaki?) cites various items he thanks for inspiring the series. First, the past Sentai series. Then, they thank essayist Tatsuru Uchida (内田 樹 Uchida Tatsuru?) for teaching them about manga that they reference in the series. The manga mentioned are Fist of the North Star (北斗の拳 Hokuto no Ken?), Dragon Ball (ドラゴンボール Doragon Bōru?), Slam Dunk (スラムダンク Suramu Danku?), Judo-bu Monogatari (柔道部物語 Jūdō-bu Monogatari?), Ranma ½ (らんま1/2 Ranma nibun-no-ichi?), Shigurui (シグルイ?), and others. They also thank Sammo Hung Gambou (サモ・ハン・キンポー Samo Han Kinpō?), Jet Li (ジェット・リー Jetto Rī?), Jackie Chan (ジャッキー・チェン Jakkī Chen?), Donnie Yen (ドニー・イェン Donī Yen?), Michelle Yeoh (King) (ミシェール・キング Mishēru Kingu?), and Yuen Biao (ユン・ピョウ Yun Pyō?) for allowing them to use their names.[1]
[edit] Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts
The Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts (激獣拳ビーストアーツ Geki Jūken Bīsuto Ātsu?) is the school of Beast-Fist that the Gekirangers practice. It is founded by the legendary Seven Fist Sages (拳聖 Kensei?), one of whom is mentor to the Gekirangers with the others offering their aid when needed. The first kanji in the original 3 Gekirangers' surnames spell "Kung Fu" (「かん・ふ・う」(カンフー) "Kan・Fu・U" (Kanfū)?) in Japanese.
- Jan Kandou (漢堂 ジャン Kandō Jan?) / GekiRed (ゲキレッド GekiReddo?)
- The "Unbreakable Body" (「アンブレイカブル・ボディ」 Anbureikaburu Bodi?), a practitioner of Fierce Beast Tiger-Fist (激獣タイガー拳 Gekijū Taigāken?) who was raised by tigers in the mountains and relies on his brute strength in battle. Because of his upbringing, he has his own terms for various concepts that are used in the titles of episodes. He became Sharkie Chan's first student of the Fierce Beast Shark-Fist (激獣シャーク拳 Gekijū Shākuken?) sword-fighting style. His strong point is his "Body" (体 Tai?, also pronounced as Karada), but does not know much about "Heart" as he was raised by animals. Training with Master Gorie Yen of the Fierce Beast Gorilla-Fist (激獣ゴリラ拳 Gekijū Goriraken?) style will improve Jan's "Heart."
- Ran Uzaki (宇崎 ラン Uzaki Ran?) / GekiYellow (ゲキイエロー GekiIerō?)
- The "Honest Heart" (「オネスト・ハート」 Onesuto Hāto?), a practitioner of Fierce Beast Cheetah-Fist (激獣チーター拳 Gekijū Chītāken?) who grew up in a dojo and relies on her speed and fists in battle. She is the most straightlaced member of the team, and was chosen by Master Elehung Kam-Bo to learn the ball and chain techniques of Fierce Beast Elephant-Fist (激獣エレファント拳 Gekijū Erefantoken?) which made her more happy and funloving. Her strong point is "Heart" (心 Shin?, also pronounced as Kokoro), but does not pay attention to details which makes her "Technique" poor. Training with Mistress Michelle Peng of the Fierce Beast Penguin-Fist (激獣ペンギン拳 Gekijū Penginken?) style will improve Ran's "Technique."
- Retsu Fukami (深見 レツ Fukami Retsu?) / GekiBlue (ゲキブルー GekiBurū?)
- The "Fantastic Technique" (「ファンタスティック・テクニック」 Fantasutikku Tekunikku?), a practitioner of Fierce Beast Jaguar-Fist (激獣ジャガー拳 Gekijū Jagāken?) who had a career as an artist but now puts beauty into his fighting. He impressed Master Bat Li and was taught the war-fan techniques of Fierce Beast Bat-Fist (激獣バット拳 Gekijū Battoken?). His strong point is his "Technique" (技 Gi?, also pronounced as Waza), but does not train as much physically making his "Body" poor. Training with Master Bion Biao of the Fierce Beast Gazelle-Fist (激獣ガゼル拳 Gekijū Gazeruken?) will improve Retsu's "Body."
- Gou Fukami (深見 ゴウ Fukami Gō?) / GekiViolet (ゲキバイオレット GekiBaioretto?)
- The "Iron Will" (「アイアン・ウィル」 Aian Wiru?) and older brother of Retsu Fukami, thought to have died fighting Rio long ago. But in reality, Gou used the forbidden Beast Full-Body Change in an attempt to defeat Rio and has been cursed to become a werewolf. After regaining his memories and undergoing soul searching, Gou accepts Sha-Fu's offer, taking the newly created GongChanger, and becomes the new team member. Though he is a master of the Fierce Beast Wolf-Fist (激獣ウルフ拳 Gekijū Urufuken?), Gou reinvented it into his personal Fukami Style (深見流 Fukamiryū?).
- Ken Hisatsu (久津 ケン Hisatsu Ken?) / GekiChopper (ゲキチョッパー GekiChoppā?)
- The "Amazing Ability" (「アメイジング・アビリティ」 Ameijingu Abiriti?), Ken is a practitioner of Fierce Beast Rhinoceros-Fist (激獣ライノセラス拳 Gekijū Rainoserasuken?), a Fierce Beast-Fist style learned only by the best martial artists of Beast-Fist at the Beast Origin Village. He has been training away from Japan at the village, and returns to take up the reigns as the fifth Gekiranger GekiChopper. To transform into GekiChopper, Ken uses the SaiBlade.
[edit] Confrontation Beast-Fist Akugata
The Confrontation Beast-Fist Akugata (臨獣拳アクガタ Rin Jūken Akugata?) is the opposing school of Beast-Fist that gets energy from the suffering of others created by the Three Fist Demons (三拳魔 Sankenma?). The main school is known as the Confrontation Beast Hall (臨獣殿 Rin Jū Den?), where all of the dead users are brought back to the world of the living.
- Rio (理央 Rio?) / Black Lion Rio (黒獅子リオ Kurojishi Rio?)
- The leader of the Confrontation Beast Hall who is a Confrontation Beast Lion-Fist (臨獣ライオン拳 Rinjū Raionken?) expert. He was originally a Fierce Beast-Fist artist under the tutelage of Sha-Fu, but severed his ties in exchange for power used by those of the Akugata. He had revived the Fist Demons, learning from them to improve his own powers until he was offered a greater power from Long, eventually mastering the Mythical Beast Gryphon-Fist (幻獣グリフォン拳 Genjū Gurifonken?) and transforming into Mythical Beast King Rio (幻獣王リオ Genjūō Rio?) at a terrible cost. Most of his past is unknown, even to himself.
- Mele (メレ Mere?)
- A user of Confrontation Beast Chameleon-Fist (臨獣カメレオン拳 Rinjū Kamereonken?). She was the first of the Rinrinshī brought back from the dead by Rio and has pledged her heart to him. During her time in the Mythical Beast-Fist, Mele is reborn as a Mythical General, mastering the Mythical Beast Phoenix-Fist (幻獣フェニックス拳 Genjū Fenikkusuken?) style.
[edit] Mythical Beast-Fist
The villains of the last quarter, Mythical Beast-Fist (幻獣拳 Gen Jūken?) is lead by Long who drafted Rio and Mele into his group. The group's hierarchy is the Mythical Beast King, the Four Mythical Generals (四幻将 Shigenshō?), and the Twin Phantoms (双幻士 Sōgenshi?) who serve the Phantom Generals. Each of the 13 fighting styles it has are modeled after legendary animals.
- Long (ロン Ron?)
- A mysterious figure who is master of the Mythical Beast Dragon-Fist (幻獣ドラゴン拳 Genjū Doragonken?) and true leader of the Mythical Beast-Fist, posing as a Mythical General and coordinator. His very background is a mystery, hiding in the shadows with an interest in Rio and being the mastermind behind the Fist Demons' bertayal that caused the first Fierce-Confrontation Rebellion centuries ago.
- Sanyo (サンヨ San'yo?)
- Long's right hand man, having power over mass and gravity due to his mastery over the Mythical Beast Basilisk-Fist (幻獣バジリスク拳 Genjū Bajirisukuken?) style.
- Suugu (スウグ Sūgu?)
- The master of the Mythical Beast Chimera-Fist (幻獣キメラ拳 Genjū Kimeraken?) who is originally sealed in a coffin until Mele and Rio awaken as members of the Mythical Beast-Fist. His fighting style is an amalgam of various animals, including a white tiger.

[edit] Gyun-Gyun! Fist Sage Great Athletic Meet
Gyun-Gyun! Fist Sage Great Athletic Meet (ギュンギュン!拳聖大運動会 Gyun-Gyun! Kensei Daiundōkai?) is a special DVD given out with the December issue of Terebi Magazine. After their latest win, the three Gekirangers find the Fist Sages stretching for their annual Fist Sage Great Althetic Meet. Jan, wanting to win the gold medal and a year's supply of Terebi magazines, joins the Red Team (Sharkie, Bat, Elehung) to go against the White Team (Sha-Fu and the Master Triangle). With Retsu as judge and Ran as moderator, the contest starts with the dunking match, as clips of the training results of Bat Li, Elephung, and Sharkie are shown, ending with the white Team winning by default. In the second match, a horseriding match, the White Team had the advantage due to the Master Triangle's teamwork, with clips of their training results shown. But due to the banana Gorie dropped prior to the match starting, the Red Team wins. In the tie breaker, a one-on-one Sumo match between Gorie and Sharkie. But neither refuse to lose, using the Double-Double Clone Fist to take their fight outside SCRTC. Sharkie's attacks have no effect until he managed to use Gorie's strength to make the win for the red team. Despite the White Team's losing, Sha-Fu steals the magazines, with the red team and the Gekirangers in pursuit. After Sha-Fu is disciplined, seeing he needs more training himself, the DVD ends with a clipshow of the series from Lessons 1 to 35.
[edit] Gekiranger vs. Boukenger
In Juken Sentai Gekiranger vs. Boukenger (獣拳戦隊ゲキレンジャーVSボウケンジャー Jūken Sentai Gekirenjā tai Bōkenjā?), the Gekiranger team meets up with the team from GoGo Sentai Boukenger. Dark Shadow's Shizuka of the Wind sneaks into SCRTC to steal a mysterious red jewel, leading to the Gekirangers confronting her. When BoukenBlack, BoukenYellow, and BoukenBlue appear, a battle among the three groups over the jewel occurs until Satoru Akashi arrives and takes the jewel. Soon after, Master Sha-Fu reveals that the red jewel in his possession is one of two that belonged to the evil Cosmic Kenpō Master Pachacamac XII (宇宙拳法の使い手パチャカマック12世 Uchū Kenpō no Tsukaite Pachakamakku Jū Ni Sei?), who was defeated by Brusa Ee. Sakura, revealed to be possessed by Pachacamac, goes after the blue jewel in the Confrontation Beast Hall, and with Satoru, they battle Rio and Mele, who join them soon after to gain the power that the Cosmic Kenpō style offers. The Gekirangers and Boukengers team up to stop them, and Dark Shadow, before they resurrect Pachacamac. The DVD was released on March 14, 2008, for rental and March 21, 2008, for purchase.[4]
