The Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable Homesite is the location where Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable located his home and trading post that marked the beginning of the City of Chicago, Illinois.[2] It is located at what is now 401 N. Michigan Avenue in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. More recently this address was the location where John Kinzie built his log cabin, where Cyrus McCormick invented the reaper, and where the current 457 foot 35-story Equitable Building is located.[3] This is the southernmost address on the east side of the Magnificent Mile. This location was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 11, 1976.[2]
