[edit] Map
The map idea is for a routing of his voyages in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere; a drawing of the Aranzazu might be out there somewhere, too, in Spanish-language webspace; I didn't know which Latin American cats and templates here, or Spanish-from-Spain ones here; no WikiProject New Spain is there? Would WikiProject Mexico be suitable for all these guys, are are some more directly Colombian Chilean, Peruvian or hometown Spanish/Iberian? Each case on its own I guess. Anyway I know maps are a lot of work, and without reading his log in detail would be hard to do; the Aranzazu is an interesting ship/story though....real Enlightenment-era , a warship - a battleship i think - converted for scientific research, very Miguel III (or was it Manuel III, kind of dotty liberal spanish monarch of the day); but in re all tehs e guys, including Meares and Colnett adn Barkley et al, I'm reminded of those old explorer maps we had showing Magellan and Cook's voyages; all "in the long ruN" but food/maps for thought....Skookum1 (talk) 02:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, maps of voyage routes would be cool. I did one for the Alessandro Malaspina page, and have thought about doing one for Galiano, whose route is described in that book I've often referenced. It might be possible to do one for Narváez & Eliza. I haven't gotten to learning much about Caamaño and the Aranzazu yet. Both Caamaño and Quimper sound like they had interesting lives and voyages, but I've only had a sort of glancing contact with them in what I've read about so far. And yea, there are so many things worth doing, mapping, etc, it's all in the long run really. As an aside, I find it curious how Caamaño's name is spelled correctly in the BC place names, but incorrectly in WA -- Camano Island lost both the tilde and the double a. [edit] The things you find out - Doig Island
I poke around the "features within proximity" wanting to look at Estevan and Aristzabal Islands (BCGNIS has one big flaaw- no search-link off those item-pages) and poked around to find Doig Island; it may not need an article, but its namesake does; see this. the things you find out huh?Skookum1 (talk) 02:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
