[edit] Re:Movie Images
I say Template:DVD rationale would be the one to use. But I've asked Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Blu-ray_covers to double check, since it would be nice even to have Template:blu-ray rationale as a redirect of DVD. MBisanz talk 22:01, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Talked to another guy, we agree DVD rationale is the best to use. Or you can pick one of the more generic things from Wikipedia:Non-free_content_criteria_compliance#Rationale_templates, but they tend not to have the autofill that the DVD one has. MBisanz talk 02:07, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: The Chronic
Hi, The section on the censored album need not be included unless it is referened etc. Also for an example of a GA album article, see the one I worked on, Curtis.
Hope this helps. --¤ The-G-Unit-฿oss ¤ 21:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WP Hip Hop
- hi there, thanks for responding. Don't worry about having a low edit number, it's quality and not quantity, and you seem to be doing well with your work on those articles you mentioned anyway. O and enthusiasm, we need more of that too. Ha ha. Think your idea about renewing the member list is a very good one: my next step was to go round messaging members on the existing list individually on their talk pages to let them know about it. Changing the collaboration seems a good idea too, i've got no specific ideas for good topics off the top of the brain but we can surely work something good out for that. Also i was see if any maintenance lists exist (list of rappers, list of albums, list of singles, etc.), update them if so, and if not make some drafts in my sandbox. tomasz. 19:08, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: "My Boo (Usher and Alicia Keys song)" Passed as GA
Thanks for the review and for passing it to GA. Your concern about the little information on reviews will be re-worked as long as I can find more sources. --Efe (talk) 06:35, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] The Chronic
Hey, I saw you put up The Chronic as a Good Article nominee. As someone who works primarily on music articles, I've found there's a lot of online resources available, particularly archives of print material. Be sure to check out the websites for The New York Times (nytimes.com}, Time (time.com), and Entertainment Weekly (ew.com) for additional references. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- Skimming over the article, I see that the album needs to be placed more in the context of when it was recorded and released. A lot of the article is based on critical evaluation well after the fact. In particular, the recording/production section should talk about what happened during the the recording of the album (given sources have written about it, which they probably have). See Surfer Rosa (an FA which will be on the Main Page soon) for an example of how to approach an album article. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I've been contribing and helping out the Fuck tha Police article and i'm glad to see you added a music sample, it kinda needed that, thanks!
[edit] Re: A Question
Hi, you've done a really good job on this album. I personally wouldn't use RapCentral as a reliable source though. I've also replied at the FAC, cheers. Spellcast (talk) 22:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Doggystyle
How funny it was just yesterday that I read your The Chronic FA voting to keep me up-to-date with hip-hop-affiliated articles (and obviously it's on my watchlist). I truly rallied behind you on that one and find the decision unjust (one vote against - one support). I didn't take part because I don't have that much experience (my articles have never been promoted - oh yes to B status). I really appreciated your work on other articles too (that I visit regurarly). The main problem is that for an year now I don't have daily internet access. The time that I have to manage is about an hour a day so I try my best to get the most of it expended on wikiediting. So to start the business : as I ran through the Doggystyle article some thing came to my mind regarding the to-do-s and your previous edits.
- I saw you have taken out the unreleased tracks section, which is a verified info (Discogs even has an old copy of the album with the tracks). Since it's a part of the album production, and the songs have been "only" removed because of copyright issues, I say they should stay in some kind of form.
- Samples (not audio files but the covered originals) has been deleted, I think they are important too, since Dr. Dre work lays heavily on sampling.(see next point)
- The lawsuits filed against the release have also been taken out, maybe they are not as much relevant, as a I cited (I found some really valuable courthouse archives) but they logically derive from the fact the other tracks were left in the cutting-room.
- As far as lawsuits concerned it might be interesting to mention in this very article that simoultanously with the production of this album Snoop Dogg's murder case was in trial. I have some free-licensed pictures for such a paragraph that initially I wanted to insert into the biography section of the main Snoop page, but would be also useful here.
I don't want to stick to the untouchability of my edits but these were the changes that I found.
Oh and last but not least I really like your name. :-) cheers Louis
Lajbi Holla @ me 09:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. I've checked your sandbox and it's fine for me if you store the stuff there. I was wondering what could we do to make the article "comprehensive" (that was the main criterion in the Chronic debate). As I came up with the idea earlier in the Doggystyle talk page, that the controversy about the inner cover of the CD, the cartoon doggy chasing girls, and the comments by C. Dolores Tucker may help to improve the page. Right now that's all from me, but if you have thoughts how to get it better (new secions, references that need to digged up, pics, charts, whatever) just tell me and I try to jump on it. Deal? (BTW my current task is to get refs on Daz Dillinger, someone blanked almost the entire page, because "it has no source"). Take care (of the article :-))
-
- I'd suggest using this formula Template:Cite news if you ever come across a newspaper article. Yeah I saw you are about to "prose-ify" the accolades table. Go ahead. I get a glimpse on it later. Lajbi Holla @ me 20:17, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

- Nice, nice. I really miss the samples. For reference I can recommend you to use www.the-breaks.com, which is a searchable sample database. Still I don't know whether itz's reliable, so maybe if you put it in for the nomination time thus others can check and decide it. Lajbi Holla @ me 18:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

- Don't you think that the interludes in this album might have some importance? The original tracklist (the first pressing where almost every song has a discussion intro separately numbered from the tracks) table contained many valuable information, which could be easily transformed into a paragraph maybe under the title "Recording session"? Just to name a few I was thinking about the first appearance of Lil' Bow Wow (maybe a short story of how he met Snoop after a concert), Daz and Dre talking about Easy-E's HIV infection (which fact was absolutely unknown then), and maybe we could add some more info about ghostwriting and ghost-producing in this album (Daz accused Dre in DPG Eulogy of lefting out some people and credited himself instead, also names himself as co-producer in two tracks - also included in the previous tracktable - not to mention the work of the D.O.C., RBX...So what do you think? Do a such section need to consist of such data? Lajbi Holla @ me 19:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- I have two DVDs for it, Welcome to Death Row and DPG Eulogy, I really don't know how to properly cite them, to not doing it just a "storytelling" way but precisely quoting. That was mainly the problem I haven't done it yet. The samples have the same problem. I found a french site recently but it's still "untrustable" for others I suppose[1]. Still I found it fitting to a GA keep up to work I'll catch up with ya whenever I can. Lajbi Holla @ me 15:35, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Doggystyle & AMW
Probably I will try to search for some info on Doggystyle, but it's almost good enough for a GA, plus it was supposed to be one of my articles to go into GA when I thought about albums to promote. Is it still nominated? AMW should obviously get going to a GA, though you have an account named Death Certificate, I personally think Death Certificate deserves it more. So you might want to get that one into somewhere instead. 2001 is good enough RIGHT NOW, so we should focus on the one's needing more work. TBH I ain't got much in my mind to add. So you know better about such stuff. Good luck! Flesh-n-Bone (talk·contributions) 16:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Doggystyle FAC
Hi GITM. I'd prefer not to involve myself directly in the FAC discussion, although I was happy to do the peer review. The review required no special expertise in hip hop; it's often helpful to writers to have comments from readers who are outsiders. I am such an outsider, and I'd feel out of my depth on this particular subject at FAC. Finetooth (talk) 00:22, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

is fine I think. For an elegant way of incorporating accolades, look at Spiderland#Accolades. indopug (talk) 16:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Gosh, it totally slipped my mind. I could do a thorough review of my outstanding concerns later if you want, but I agree with Laser Brain (below) about withdrawal. Even apart from the comprehensiveness concerns (which I haven;t yet reviewed) there are problems with the content; for on, blockquotes are meant to be used scarcely, because they are unsightly in that they change the formatting of the text. Most articles have one or two, while this has four in quick succession. Two in quick succession appears very poorly. Further, I'm not sure whether a Songs section has merit at all. Its goes a little too much into detail into chart information of singles and awards, which I think can be cut down into a paragraph and added to the commercial reception section. indopug (talk) 20:37, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Further, the first blockquote in particular is in a very very colloquial slang, making it rather to understand for lay readers. indopug (talk) 20:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] It Was a Good Day
Just letting you know that I failed the GA review for It Was a Good Day. Overall, I think the article is a little anemic source-wise (none of the chart positions are sourced, nor is the section on the song's content/samplings). Also, the image for the video doesn't have a sufficient fair-use rationale. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 22:21, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't think of putting it on hold; I have now. Sorry, I'm still sort of a n00b to GA reviews. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 22:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Doggystyle FAC
Sorry, I haven't read the whole article and rarely support anything because--while I can tell when things should be improved--I'm rarely confident that anything is FA material. I will try to look at it more thoroughly (although this is exam week) but can't promise anything. gren グレン 20:49, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Copy-edit
About the hip hop wikiproject, there's many editors who regularly edit rap articles, but I think people generally like doing their own thing with articles as opposed to collaborating on something they otherwise wouldn't normally work on. I'd like to see Rapping improved, but I currently don't have a detailed understanding of the history and impact to expand it. If you think you can improve the WP:HH page, by all means go ahead. Oh and don't about copyedit requests, I'm happy to do them :) Cheers, Spellcast (talk) 09:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there - thanks for the note but I don't have time at the moment. If you end up withdrawing the FAC (which I recommend) or it is not promoted, ping me in a week or so and I'll take a look. Did you address the sourcing concerns? Copy-editing is really the last step once everything is in place. --Laser brain (talk) 15:28, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- But indopug has not stricken his opposition. He is a good reviewer and I would work with him to resolve his concerns before even engaging a copy-editor. --Laser brain (talk) 18:18, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
