[edit] The Fletchers

Sounds good. I mainly wanted to get a bio up, as Sir James Jnr recently passed away. --Lholden 00:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Archive topics

Hello Gadfium,

I do not deny removing one or two topics while archiving the talk page. This was due to the fact that the content posted by that user was innappropriate and could be described as "trolling" and "vandalism"

Here are some of the untrue content which he added:

He then logged in under this useraccount: "True jesus" and wrote this cheeky comment. Shortly afterwards he commenced vandalizing any TJC related topics through these IP addresses.

Hence I have not bothered to archive any content that were added by that vandal.

Regards --G. Campbell 04:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

The topic has now been restored. --G. Campbell 05:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
The other topic regarding Swahili translations had been moved to the TJC Swahili talk page where it has more relevance. --G. Campbell 05:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Paul College

Hi Gadfium. Thanks for your message. I have transferred the usable content from JP(NZ) to JP,Rotorua. Not sure how to do "redirect" from JP(NZ). Maybe you could oblige. Sorry to bother you. By the way, thanks very much for all your vigilence, advice and help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rick570 (talkcontribs) 21:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Done.-gadfium 21:56, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you so much

Dear Gadfium , Thank you for adding category (New Zealand expatriates in the United Kingdom)in Sir Sydney Smith's page. Much appreciated. --Cyril Thomas 22:54, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Current events/News Browser

I have restored the Portal:Current events/Oceania to the template Portal:Current events/News Browser as it has been updated several times in the month of August and September. I apologize as my first comment was perhaps too sharp. I'm assuming good faith that perhaps you hadn't reviewed the Portal:Current events/Oceania recently to have seen its updates. Mkdwtalk 02:34, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

The most recent update to that page was in January. The page transcludes highlights from the news section of Portal:Oceania, which might be confusing you. I keep the portal up to date. However, a portal ITN section is not suitable for the News Browser, and should not be included there.-gadfium 03:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

For proposing 2007 Pacific Games for inclusion on the main page. I was quite chuffed to see positive comments about my freehand prose and generally an article I had pretty much worked on in the absence of any other editors showing an interest! Thanks again Dick G 10:25, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mike Jonathan Page

Hi, I understand the copyright issue. Mike's representative didn't get the permission slip from him before he went to the Russian Film Festival with Taika Waititi. The notable part, I am confused about. I understand Taika's Notablity and Cliff's, but Mike has received several awards and nominated for a NZ film screen award. Hawaikii which is listed on Imdb is notable. It is still circulating at film festivals. Do I have to wait until he is nominated for an oscar. What is the criteria for notable. Please and thank for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Temarie (talkcontribs) 02:31, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't see where in the article it mentioned those awards.-gadfium 03:46, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Prime Ministers to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Kia ora, I notice that you have deleted the modifications I added to the site. I have since looked further into the site from which I gathered most of the images to find that yes, they are under copyright laws. If you have a problem with the pictures then I understand that copyright laws are a factor which this site must adhere to. That being said, I fail to understand why you deleted various wikipedia links (eg. Monarchy in New Zealand, Prime Ministers of New Zealand, and the table which sited their political parties and the corresponding colour tones) because they come under no copyright laws. I ask you to please reinstate the work I did to the page, with the exception of the photos. Cheers.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Sugnaguy (talkcontribs)

I don't see any edits you made recently to Monarchy in New Zealand, and your edits to Prime Ministers of New Zealand were solely to insert the invalid images.-gadfium 08:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I did not make any changes to Monarchy in New Zealand, I did however create links to those two pages in the Prime Ministers of Queen Elizabeth II. What I am asking you to do is put the wikitable back on the page with the exception of the pictures. This would mean reinstating the table which had the PM's names, terms, and affiliated party along with the corresponding colour tones.
It's ok, I worked out how to do it. The pictures have been deleted.

[edit] deleting

stop deleting stuff u idiot —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rory Johns (talkcontribs) 07:07, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

What material of yours have I deleted? I see you have created an article on Nick Corliss which is likely to be deleted, but I haven't done so.-gadfium 07:12, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the agressive aprroach but if why did u delete it? IF you check the u-17 NZ Soccer website you will find that it is true that Nick Corliss is a great footballer, and there is already 1 u-17 teammember in the Phoenix (Costa) and they are lookngi for more.!

Thank you,

R. Johns

P.S I didn't mean to put this on the Thank You section! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rory Johns (talkcontribs) 22:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I think there's some misunderstanding. I haven't deleted anything that your current account has created, nor have I deleted an article called Nick Corliss. If you have a previous account, and spelled the article a little bit differently, then I might have done so, but I don't see anything obvious in the list of articles I've deleted recently.
The reason the Nick Corliss article was deleted was because it didn't sufficiently explain why Corliss is notable. This is probably because he isn't notable enough to be in an encyclopedia. We have articles on a lot of sportspeople here, but mostly they have been in the national team for their sport. Players in provincial teams are pretty marginal in terms of notability, and players in under-17 teams still more so. See WP:N and WP:BIO for more explanation of what makes a person notable enough for an article.-gadfium 22:59, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
If you want, you can ask the person who did delete the Corliss article about why they did so. See [3] to find out who it was. I suggest you be polite; if you approach them as aggressively as you did me you might get a more hostile response.-gadfium 23:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello again,

I don't think you understand that the New Zealand u-17 National Team is a lot more prestigous and competed than any provincial in NZ. He has been through that. By being in the u017 team he has trained with the "All Whites" the national team and is reguarly brodcasted on television whether its for playing in the national mens league, or the u-17 World Cup, or an interview. Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rory Johns (talkcontribs) 01:06, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kiwi Page

Why did revert the status portion of the Kiwi page? Can you give me a reasonble answer i would be happy to leave it as you reverted it, but according the the NZ Department of Conservation the kiwi is an endangered species, hence the endangered status. (♠Murchy♠) 13:12, 22 September 2007 (UTC))

The article deals with several species of the genus Apteryx, all known as kiwi. The conservation status is appropriate only to each species and not to the genus. If you look at the articles on the individual species, ie Great Spotted Kiwi, Little Spotted Kiwi, Okarito Brown Kiwi, Tokoeka and North Island Brown Kiwi, you will see that each has a conservation status, and they are not all the same.-gadfium 18:34, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Hi Gadfium. This image Image:New Zealand Forces in the Middle East.jpg has been uploaded as PD-self, but it appears to be identical to an image on the Beehive website at [4]; you have to change the drop-down list 'Select a Minister's gallery' to 'Mark Burton' - then it should be the first photo in that gallery. This would appear to be NZ Crown Copyright according to Beehive - legal. Any advice? Kahuroa 21:24, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Just list the image at WP:CP, and drop a note to the uploader. It may be possible to use the image under fair use, but that isn't the licence it was uploaded with, so I think it should be deleted and if someone then wants to upload it with a fair use rationale, they can do so. I've given up on fair use images myself; a picture may be worth a thousand words but it takes far more than a thousand words worth of effort to defend a fair use claim. You can link directly to the original image at [5]-gadfium 21:49, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
done Kahuroa 22:02, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, since many of the images uploaded by that editor are PD-self but its unlikely they took the photos, I've made an informal request that they acknowledge their mistake in licensing, and if they do so I can delete the photos without having to go through the formal process.-gadfium 22:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: In Unison

Hey Gadfium, cheers for your help. I won't request a review just yet, as there might be an even stronger case for reinstatement pending the 2007 ASPA Awards in the next fortnight. It'll no doubt provide more external sources, and maybe another couple of awards to report too... Anyway, your assistance with negotiating review policy would be hugely appreciated. Underscore b 01:56, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Commonweatlh of Nations/Barnstar

What do you think re deleting this. For one thing Commonwealth is mispelled, but there was no discussion before it was created, and the creator seems to be the only recipient/awarder. Kahuroa 05:36, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

There's no such Wikiproject (at least, not with the obvious spelling). I'll delete it as a WP:ROUGE action.-gadfium 05:43, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Proudhon.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Proudhon.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:50, 28 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 04:50, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I no longer bother to defend images.-gadfium 04:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Please read Ownership of articles. I spent a fair bit of time cleaning up the article on CTV8. It looked like this before I started. The material I deleted was mostly sentences which made no sense, which substantially repeated information, or was promotional in tone. With subsequent editing by other editors, it has now become a decent stub article.-gadfium 18:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
