[edit] SAPOL ranks

Noticed your update of the ranks on the SAPOL page, like it. I also note that the ranks of Constable through SC1C are a little mixed up, so I will fix that up.

Also, would you care to make up a blank epaulette that may be used for both the probationary constable and constable ranks on the SAPOL page? Thanks. Aaron 06:13, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah, being from NSW I'm not used to seeing nor hearing those ranks so I must've got a little mixed up. Thanks for fixing. I can indeed make up a blank epaulette - should it have a generic '000' serial number placeholder or not? DirectEdge (talk) 07:00, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I think it should, as blank epaulettes still have the officer's registered number. Thanks very much. Aaron 07:08, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, I've made one up. Before I merge it into the SAPOL and Australian police ranks articles, is the following correct?
Non-Commissioned Officers [1]
Probationary
Constable
Constable First Class
Constable
Senior
Constable
Senior
Constable 1C
Sergeant Senior
Sergeant

Certainly appears to be to me. Top work. Aaron 13:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Cheers. The ranks have now been merged into the articles. DirectEdge (talk) 21:19, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] LEPRA Act

Under the LEPRA Act 2002 they have powers of arrest but not police powers of arrest. Section 100 is the relevant part. DPCU (talk) 21:27, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

That's specific to NSW, but a similar power of 'citizens arrest' exists under the Crimes Act 1914. However, seeing as how all persons in Australia have that power, I don't think it's worth mentioning with specific reference to ASIO officers. It may also serve to reinforce incorrect notions of their being a secret police. DirectEdge (talk) 21:55, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] citizens' arrest / your comments..

wikipedia is a place where people can discuss things. i don't know why you are getting in the way of people helping me. it fully pertains to the subject, and just because it is a real life example is no reason to shut down a conversation. thanks. and i will try to be understanding to your response to this. peace, and sincerely - BriEnBest (talk) 07:45, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

i guess i seccede that i was asking for advice, but at the same time though, it is also asking for information about citizens' arrests. therefor, i think it is okay to ask about it, because it is asking about citizens arrests, and it is the mere fact that it is a real life example from my life that makes it "asking for advice." sorry about my tone before, i mis-understoond what you meant by solicitor... again, i'm sorry, i hope you're cool and understanding :) peace. BriEnBest (talk) 07:52, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I just didn't want to get into a legal conversation regarding your specific circumstances as that would be best left to a solicitor. Also sorry if my using 'solicitor' confused you - I guess outside Australia and the UK they are more commonly called lawyers. General discussion about citizen's arrest are fine, but like I said I didn't want to get into legal advice based on what happened to you. I'm sorry to have sounded like I was shutting down the conversation, but I again I just wanted to emphasise that it would be best to seek professional legal advice. DirectEdge (talk) 10:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, i'm sorry too man. the thing is, i don't have enough money to hire a "real" lawyer. and here in the US if you can't afford a "lawyer" the court assigns you a "public attourney," which is essentially a publically funded lawyer for people who could potentially be facing jail time, but the thing is - mine still hasn't called me back yet, so i guess i am just SOL (shit out of luck) as far as professional legal advice goes, but i still need to know about how citizens' arrests go for my case. I plan on visiting the nevada public library on monday though, so i guess i'll look it up there. Best of luck bro and i really am sorry for my tone before. Best of wishes. [edit] DA Vandal

Hey, thanks for taking care of that page. Some bitter ex-student (well just got expelled actually) has been doing his best to take the page down for the past few weeks. Regards, Dmhaglund (talk) 13:01, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. DirectEdge (talk) 23:15, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
