Dave Batista was a good article nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There are suggestions below for improving the article. Once these are addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

[edit] Age?

OKay, maybe it's just me, but in the section on his family, it says that "by the age of 40" he had two grandchildren. That'd be just fine and dandy, except as far as I can see, if he was born in 1969, then he's 38 right now. Just my math. Cougar Draven 03:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

It says "before" the age of forty. Gavyn Sykes 03:36, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
"Before the age of 40, Batista had already become a grandfather of two grandsons" implies that he is past that age. You want to fix it, or should I? Cougar Draven 03:39, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
He's 38, that's before the age of forty. There's nothing wrong with that statement. Gavyn Sykes 03:49, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Grammatically, that statememnt won't be correct until January of 2009. Cougar Draven 07:03, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree^SimonKSK (talk) 12:56, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Electric chair"

It mentions that Batista gave Orton an electric chair. Was this a driver, drop or powerbomb? All three have electric chair versions and the wikilink redirects to a page with all of them listed. Gavyn Sykes 17:44, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Unless I'm extremely mistaken, the name "electric chair" by itself revers to the drop. Also, having seen the episode when it first aired, and watching it now on Youtube [1][2], it's an electric chair drop. Cougar Draven 16:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Alright then, thanks. I'll fix the link. Gavyn Sykes 16:34, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Height

Batista is definitely not 6'6!!! At WrestleMania 22, he stood next to Randy Orton and was at least an inch smaller than Randy Orton. Randy Orton is 6'4. So maybe you could change his height to 6'3. Because 6'6 looks stupid. Lee 22:57, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I also noticed this (don't think it was WrestleMania, though). But it's his billed height. Maybe Randy is really tall. JBL is billed at 6'6" aswell yet he seemed to tower over Batista in events leading to Cyber Sunday (when he got speared). --DlaeYou're quite the talker aren't you? 22:47, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] bautista on facebook?

"Dave Bautista" and I are friends on FaceBook, but i'm pretty sure it isn't legit. any ideas?

J.C. 07:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Please, tell me you're joking...
Also, if this "Dave" asks you to meet at the baseball park at 11pm, say no.DlaeYou're quite the talker aren't you? 22:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

why what happened ??

J.C. 05:46, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

This is SO irrelevant to the article IMO, and I'm 99.9% sure it's not really Batista, the wrestler. He's traveling with the WWE all the time so it's not really him. User:Darkdemon90 20:57, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dave Bautista.

Why is this name used as the article title? It is never used in the article, and it's neither his birth name, nickname or ring name. I submit that either David Bautista, Dave Batista, or Batista should be used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevinbrowning (talkcontribs) 00:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I hardly think that we should nitpick. Dave is a commmon nickname for David and Flair used to call Batista, "Big Dave." Gavyn Sykes 04:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Triple H called him "Dave". Eddie Guerrero called him "Bautista" (bow-teesta, sort of). I think the article should be his ring name (Dave Batista) or real name (David Bautista) - not a combination of both. --DlaeThe Freudian Slip 20:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering if "Deacon Bautista" or just "Deacon" should be added to his list of nicknames because he used them when he was with Reverent D'Von in 2002. User:Darkdemon90 21:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Bautista is his legal name. Although it is pronouce with a silent "u" in English. Batista's father a Filipino and his last name is of Spanish origin, hence Bautista (bow-teesta) is the way Spanish people pronounce it, like Eddie Guerrero.Jbritp (talk) 19:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

It's in Batista's BOOK! Perfectly sourced. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 04:55, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is Batista mentioned in Dog - The Bounty Hunter's Book?

I just read the book "You can run, but you can't hide" by Duane Chapman alies Dog - The Bounty Hunter. On several pages he mentiones a friend he worked with named David Bautista. Is this the same Batista like here? Because I've never heard or read anything before that he had worked as a bail bonds man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.171.53.168 (talk) 00:55, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

I can't find anything that would link the two, but if anyone can find anything I think it would be an interesting connection. --EnhancedDownloadBird (Upload) - 02:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Billed weight?

Can someone please change Batista's weight? He is weight currently billed at 317 lbs. Jbritp (talk) 19:43, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

We use the WWE.com source. If they don't change it, we don't, plain and simple. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 19:44, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

OK. I can't argue with the source. HAHAHA Jbritp (talk) 19:51, 20 December 2007 (UTC) What they bill sometimes it is not true —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rock hard 2.0 (talk • contribs) 12:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Detailed imaginery information

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatling_gun has a picture of a Gatling gun and nobody would be able to lift that. Perhaps changing the reference to him firing an imaginery machine gun would be more accurate? 12:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dating Maria?

Is it true that Batista is dating Maria? http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrities/people/dating/maria-kanellis.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.1.61.2 (talk) 20:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Wasn't Maria dating CM Punk? J.C. (talk) 01:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] External links

Can someone please remove the myspace link? It is not his myspace. The only one he has is www.myspace.com/demonwrestling

Sleegee (talk) 02:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Finisher?

Isn't Batista's finisher a snap sitout powerbomb and not just a sitout powerbomb? Because everytime I saw Batista do the Batista Bomb, it was real quick. As soon as the legs were on Batista's shoulders he dropped down.SimonKSK (talk) 12:55, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] current

there as been nothing added about 2008 like winning brand surpremity at wm24 or facing hbk over retirment to ric flair or even more recent almost winning a shot at the world title (smackdown not yet aired till friday) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.216.63.149 (talk) 21:34, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

None of those occurrences are notable to Batista's overall career. Per WP:PW, we don't add week-by-week results. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

yea but some have sence like winning brand surpemity at wm24 that has to be notable mean were 5 months in 2008 and he as nothing in there what about his chance at the us title or fude with hbk, mvp mainly the wm24 match he had desevrs mentioning its one of the few times they have these matchs KCDavis (talk) 14:36, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Article name

Why is the article named Dave Batista when his real name is Dave Bautista? The title used to be Bautista, now why is it Batista? Shouldn't it be changed back?Skilldog2 (talk) 20:38, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Per here. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 20:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Batista or Bautista

I hate bringing this up cause I know it's gonna result in a debate, but I gotta ask anyway. Should Batista's article be re-named to Dave Batista or should it remain as Dave Bautista?

Per WP:UCN, it appears that it should be listed as Dave Batista (WWF spelling) rather then the "real" spelling of his name. There are many examples that support this argument. Tazz, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, etc, etc. But then there are some wrestlers whose real names are listed as their real names (despite being widely known by their ring names). Such examples include Anthony Carelli, Ken Anderson & Paul Wight. --Endless Dan 18:06, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, to aid in the discussion, "Dave Batista" gets 132,000 Google hits and "Dave Bautista" get 23,300. Also, on the cover of Batista Unleashed, it is spelled "Dave Batista". I support a rename. Nikki311 23:22, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Per Dan's and Nikki's comments, I too support a move.~SRX~ 23:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree, and with four supports, I moved the page. King iMatthew 2008 00:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Very cool. Now, should this be a standard for every wrestler (with a few exceptions)? If so, what's the case for Oscar Gutierrez and the other wrestlers I mentioned above? --Endless Dan 21:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

The article should most definitely be moved to Rey Mysterio. If anybody objects, please speak. King iMatthew 2008 22:48, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
I think it's too close to his uncle's name (especially with an ongoing debate about moving that uncle to Rey Misterio. I think it should be moved to Rey Mysterio, Jr., as it's the name he became famous under and it clearly differentiates the articles much better than Rey Misterio vs. Rey Mysterio would. GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:27, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
As for the others, I have no problem with moving Carelli or Anderson. Paul Wight should stay where it is, though, as The Giant was a very well-known ring name for him (under which he won the WCW World Championship twice). GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
I definitely support Wight staying as is. He amongst "the few exceptions" I mentioned above. I think legal names should be kept for folks who have done notable things under different names - like Wight (Giant, Show, etc) or Morrison (Nitro, Spade, Morrison). Is there anyone else out there who could be possibly moved? --Endless Dan 12:12, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Glen Jacobs to Kane (wrestler)? Gavyn Sykes (talk) 13:18, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Glen Jacobs was also Dr. Isaac Yankem, DDS and the "Fake Diesel". — Gwalla | Talk 20:49, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

But he is best known as Kane. King iMatthew 2008 20:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm well aware of his other ring names. But he's been known as Kane for over ten years. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 22:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
So yes, or no? King iMatthew 2008 22:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
My vote would be no. He was well-known under other ring names, so I think using his real name is the best way to go. I also hate having page titles end with (wrestler), which would have to be the case because Kane is a disambiguation page for 45 uses of "Kane". On top of that, Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat also wrestled under the ring name Kane during part of his time in WCW. GaryColemanFan (talk) 22:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

A google search for Glen Jacobs gets 557,000 hits, while a google search for Kane gets 49,300,000 hits. King iMatthew 2008 22:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

But how many of those hits aren't for "our" Kane? -The Hybrid- 22:52, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I didn't think of that, but for a google search of "Kane (wrestler), I get 756,000 hits. King iMatthew 2008 23:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I support a move of Jacobs to Kane (wrestler), a move of Gutierrez to Rey Mysterio, Jr., a move of Carelli to Santino Marella. However, what about Anderson (should it be moved to "Ken Kennedy" or just "Mr. Kennedy"), and any consensus about Alvin Burke, Jr?~SRX~ 23:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Let's take this one step at a time. King iMatthew 2008 23:15, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
