Dave Wright (radio)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Wright is a radio announcer on the Australian Radio Network in Sydney. He is one of Australia's youngest and most well respected music radio personalities and public speakers.

[edit] Radio History

Dave started his radio life in 1991 on a community radio station in Liverpool, Sydney on 2GLF, and followed his dream threw high school. After completing his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Moorebank High School, Dave then studied Commercial Broadcasting at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) before starting at his first commercial radio station CLASSIC GOLD 10.71am in Kingaroy, Queensland.

After two and a half years, Dave moved to the Capital Radio Network and EAGLE FM – 2GN Goulburn for a brief time in 1998, before moving onto The HUNTERS POWER FM, based in the Hunter Valley town of Muswellbrook in NSW within the same year.

In 1999, Dave became the station voice of NEWFM in Newcastle, NSW and Power FM in Ballarat, Victoria.

In 2000, he left the GRANT BROADCASTERS and POWER FM Muswellbrook to work at 2SM and the FM Super Network based in Pyrmont, Sydney. It was Midnight to Dawn, but the audience spanned the east coast of Australia. Dave landed the morning shift on the final broadcast for Dance station WILD FM. He then moved to the Australian Traffic Network (ATN) where he was the airborne traffic reporter for 2GB and 2CH for six months, before being poached by MIX 106.5.

[edit] MIX 106.5

Dave began work at MIX 106.5 in September 2000 (the week the Olympic Games in Sydney commenced) and worked as the sidekick to David Rymer. The combination proved successful with the Sydney audience and achieved large gains in Sydney Breakfast radio - a result that was historic for MIX 106.5. In October 2001, Dave moved to the prime Drive Time shift, where he remains today. Dave archieved his career goal when he took MIX 106.5 Drive shift to Number 1 in February, 2005. As of July 2007, Wright no longer works for MIX 106.5. He now works for the Australian Traffic Network and does the weekend traffic for 2UE, as well as traffic for other Sydney radio stations.
