[edit] Help with RFC

Hello fellow Wikipedia:WikiProject_Nova_Scotia member. I have recently lodged a Request for Comments on the Talk:Halifax, Nova Scotia page. I and several other editors have had a running dispute with user Lonewolf BC. The RFC is This is a dispute about whether it is accurate to continue to refer to the area of or approximately coinciding with the boundaries of the City of Halifax, which became a part of the rural/urban Halifax Regional Municipality in 1996, as a city.

Basically, as I say on the RFC, we all agree that this is no longer a City, but to use former City's boundaries when describing the current urban area as a "city" (note the lower case) is at best arbitrary and at worst a fabrication. The city is now a continuous area that wraps the harbour, from Portuguese Cove (outside of the city of Halifax to the west and south) to Cole Harbour (outside of the former City of Dartmouth to the east). People now refer to the entire urban area of Halifax Regional Municipality as 'the city' and 'Halifax'.

Anyway, the bottom line is at least five people have tried to change the wording of the intro since January, and every time this one user changes it back. I have tried to come up with compromise wording, and he won't dialog. Right now wikipedia says HRM and Halifax are the capital of Nova Scotia. This article is now factually incorrect, in my opinion, and I need your help, please chime in. WayeMason 23:10, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Canadian troops Hometowns

I think we should add a column for the servicepersons hometown (like the British have here: British Forces casualties in Afghanistan since 2001). I think it would add a lot to this page. I can't figure out the programming here to make that happen, so it's up to you experts. What do you all think?--RobNS 06:15, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

If you look up two comments that's exactly what I said. Glad to have someone else who agrees with me. (Psyklek 19:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC))
Well I would add it, and did try to, but can't seem to successfully add the column. Can you do it?--RobNS 21:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I tried something similar, but with another page. I'll commit some time to it this week to see if I can do it, but I'm working on some papers right now. Cheers, (Psyklek 21:57, 15 April 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Cumberland county

People were complaining about the map not lining up to the links, so that fixed it- at least for my browser. -- Earl Andrew - talk 02:59, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

It does on browser. I think there is a better html tag for that, but I'm not sure what it is off hand. -- Earl Andrew - talk 03:18, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Well removing the infobox made it work, but I think it really weakens the article to not have the infobox. Can I suggest we consider a new article Map of Cumberland County or Map of Communities in Cumberland County, Nova ScotiaWayeMason 01:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Ho, Daddy... I didn't see the infobox because the formating is messed up. So goodnews is that the map works now. The bad news is that, the info box was hanging way off the screen to the right, so my screen is 1078 px wide, and the infobox is now starting at 1020px or so and then ending around 1350px. Sigh. PS we have an official Wikiproject infobox now! {{User Wiki Nova Scotia}} WayeMason 01:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I believe strongly in being bold. I think its perfectly acceptable to remove stub tags and things like that if you are reasonable confident it is appropriate. I also think a lot of people from not the Maritimes attach stub tags to articles, where you and I would be saying WTF, how long do you think an article about Tidnish is going to be? I mean, for a lot of towns, rivers, and things down here, we will be lucky to ever get more than a paragraph or two on it! WayeMason 02:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Springhill, NS pics

I feel that there's too many photos for Springhill now. It isn't aesthetic. I say that with the utmost kindness even though it's direct (I don't want you to confuse my tone). It would probably look better for me with a higher resolution than what I have at work, but for smaller resolutions it doesn't look great. I noticed that you'd edited the pictures, so that's why I wrote this. Andrew647 19:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Andrew, and no offence taken. We're both Nova Scotians here. The page in question actually had no mine photos on it, so I uploaded three that I though were good (I took them myself in 2003), and sprinkled them around the story. Springhill is so well know for the mine and it's history, that the mine has to be prominent in the page. Remember that when you click on the photo, it gets much bigger, which is what most people do. At any rate, feel free to move them around or edit them as you wish. I think the page looks OK with them, but then I put them there.  ;-)--RobNS 20:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reverted Edit

Yes, what you're saying about the Highway 104/4 thing is right. I misunderstood the original sentence in the article. Now it makes sense and I realize that it was correct. Thomasiscool 15:39, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Feedback: Parrsboro, Nova Scotia

Excellent editing on the article. You have added a history section which must have required a lot of research. Regarding improving the article, you could rename the section Economic struggle to just Economy and expand it by adding to it a list of notable companies providing employment in the area. Also you could add a demographics section detailing the population mix. Another optional is adding a list of notable people who have come from the town. If you could find some pictures of any of the three museums, that would be more better. Hope this helps. --Agεθ020 (ΔTФC) 20:26, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template

Honestly, I don't think this is needed at all. With a properly-filled out infobox, like on Nova Scotia Highway 104, there is a link to the main list and browsing to the previous and next route. The browsing allows for easy navigation through the routes, and the link to the list allows for a list with more details. --NE2 00:39, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I concur with NE2. The infobox is all that's needed for a provincial scope. (O - RLY?) 00:47, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Probably, though if the 100-series template were reduced to one line I don't think it would be a problem. Right now the 100-series template has a lot of white space and links that aren't really related. --NE2 00:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nova Scotia Highway Template

Please do not use the template:NS Roads and Highways template - it's purpose has been already implemented in the infoboxes and the list articles. These templates are not recommended by WP:CRWP as they do nothing more than fill the page with useless decoration and duplicate a system that is already in place. thank you. master sonT - C 00:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually WP:CRWP does recommend using them; maybe we should discuss a change on WT:CRWP. --NE2 00:58, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and it looks like you just got stuck in the middle of one of the current arguments. My condolences :) --NE2 00:59, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
It really hasn't been centrally discussed anywhere, as far as I know. I'll start a discussion on WT:CRWP. --NE2 01:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate the participation in the conversation - and I apologize for prematurely cutting you from using the templates as NE2 was correct in his statement. master sonT - C 03:20, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Quebec article discussion

Hi Andrew,

I've cleaned up your essay as Mathieugp broke up your essay with his comments (this is against wikipolicy, and he does this perpetually with my posts). I've added a few extra sources too. I'm glad you wrote this, because I haven't had the time to look for extra sources. I'm going to I'll ask you to post the essay (and responses) at the Quebec:Talk page, as it clearly establishes that there is no consensus (of any kind) on whether Quebec is a nation or even on what the Quebec nation means. We should also request that the references be included at the bottom of the article for future reference. --Soulscanner 07:02, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'll put it up in a moment. Andrew647 07:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I can't really reference it, but i saw it Portuguese colonization of the Americas, on the Settlements in North America section. And it was on the Template, so...
