[edit] Pro career

Following the Olympics, Diaconu turned professional, and has since gone undefeated with a record of 24-0 with 15 knockouts. He won his first title in June 2005, taking the Canadian Light Heavyweight Title after a 5th round knockout of Conal MacPhee. In December 2005, Diaconu won the WBC International Light Heavyweight Title after knocking out Darrin Humphrey (then 21-4). He followed that win up by defeating Max Heyman to take the vacant NABA Light Heavyweight and Trans American Light Heavyweight titles. Diaconu vacated his Canadian title to face Rico Hoye in a WBC Light-Heavyweight eliminator bout.[1] He was successful, dominating Hoye (then 21-1) until a referee TKO stoppage in the 3rd round.[2] The fight was the headline bout of ESPNs Wednesday Night Fights held on May 9th, 2007 after being postponed from its original March 23th date. With the win, Diaconu becomes the mandatory challenger for current WBC World Champion Chad Dawson.[3]
