[edit] Calling for an explanation
I just made some changes which I can find no problem with and DrMagic erased them. I cannot figure out why, I'm going to put in similar changes and I ask Dr. Magic to please explain any changes he makes so that I can see if/how I'm being innacurate or offensive. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.27.50.114 (talk • contribs).
- I put a request on User:Drmagic's talk page for a response here.
- FWIW, I think there was nothing wrong with your 66.27.50.114's contribution, except that you haven't mastered the somewhat tricky use of references. Keep up the good work.
- I'll fix your references, so you can see how it is done. Cheers. -- Geo Swan 02:07, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

- The article was using an old style of reference. I changed it to a newer style, where you embed the reference between a pair of html tags, the <ref></ref> pair. Then, at the end of the article, you put a <references/> tag. That prints out the references, numbered, in order. If there are letters following the reference number, each one is a link to one of multiple references to that link.
-
- I give each instance of a <ref></ref> pair a name, even if I only use that reference once. And when I use a reference multiple times I paste the whole reference. Other people will put something like <ref name=ThisIsAName/> for the subsequent references. I don't do this because, at some point, another editor might erase the paragraph with the first reference, or they might move it to a place at the document. I figure I prevent errors if I make every reference a complete reference. Don't hestitate to leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions.
-
- Can I ask if you have considered creating a userid? Now I sign my message by putting four tildes in a row, like this: ~~~~ That gets translated into a signature and time stamp. You can do that, even though you don't have a userid. -- Geo Swan 02:48, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

- Maybe we shouldn't hold our breaths waiting for a reply from User:Drmagic. He was recently involved in a dispute, and an administrator put a block on his account. I didn't look into it enough to form an opinion as to whether he had it coming. He said he didn't. Well, the block is over. And he has blanked User:Drmagic and User Talk:Drmagic -- as if he has abandoned that userid, or abandoned the wikipedia altogether. Anyhow 66.28.50.114, don't worry about his comments. -- Geo Swan 19:28, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {fact} ?
Someone put a {fact} on al Wahab's assertion that he was sold to the Americans for a bounty. Kind of confusing, since the reference to Amnesty International is clearly marked.
So, I am removing it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Geo Swan (talk • contribs) 00:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] cleanup?
A wikipedia contributor put a cleanup tag on this article back in November. The cleanup tag tells readers to go to the talk page to read the explanation from the wikipedia contributor who placed the tag. It has been almost two months, and they still haven't offered their explanation. How long should we wait before removing the tag?
Cheers! -- Geo Swan 00:35, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
