Swiss European Air Lines is a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines, operating as the latter on some of its short haul routes. Swiss International Air Lines, also known as SWISS, is the successor of Swissair, following that company's grounding in 2001. Like its parent, Swiss European is part of the Star Alliance.

On 26th September 2006, the pilots of Swiss European Air Lines went on a 24h warning strike, as the management had still not obeyed a court order from 2003 concerning equal pay for equal work.

The Swiss European Air Lines fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of December 2007):
- 20 Avro RJ100
The average age of the Swiss European Air Lines fleet is 10.1 years (as of January 2008) [1].
Lufthansa placed an order on April 17, 2007 for 30 Embraer E-190 and 15 Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft to directly replace its fleet of BAe 146 and Avro RJ aircraft, of which 18 are operated by Lufthansa CityLine and 24 by Swiss European Air Lines. All of the Embraer E-190s are expected to be flown by Swiss.[1]
[edit] Accidents and Incidents
- On 18 August 2007 an Avro RJ100 aircraft made a hard landing at London City Airport on a regular scheduled flight from Geneva.[2] None of the 93 passengers and crew were hurt but there was substantial damage the aircraft and representatives are assessing the aircraft flight capabilities as of 2008.
