The South Georgia Peanuts were a member of the South Coast League, based at the Paul Eames Sports Complex in Albany, Georgia. The team was not affiliated with Major or Minor League Baseball. Wally Backman was the club's manager in its inaugural season.
The teams one season was chronicled in the documentary television series Playing for Peanuts produced by John J. Fitzgerald.
On July 20, 2007, the South Georgia Peanuts were involved in an on-field brawl with the Macon Music. After the brawl was broken up by the umpires the Peanuts refused to retake the field and forfeited the game. [1] Backman was suspended 8 games for the incident despite the fact that he was not on the field when everything happened.
