Science Fiction Foundation

The Science Fiction Foundation was founded in the United Kingdom 1970 by the writer/social activist George Hay and others as a semi-autonomous association of writers, academics, critics and others with an active interest in science fiction, with Arthur C. Clarke and Ursula K. Le Guin as patrons.
The Foundation was originally (1970 to 1995) based in the North East London Polytechnic in Barking, Essex, UK (now the University of East London). For much of this period the Director of the Foundation was Malcolm Edwards, who later moved to Gollancz. The Foundation publishes the journal Foundation: The International Review of Science Fiction, and owns and supports the research library The Science Fiction Foundation Collection, currently held among the special collections at the Sidney Jones library of the University of Liverpool.
The Foundation provide a scientific speaker for the Eastercon each year, under the general title of the George Hay Memorial Lecture.
