[edit] Franchise history
The team is owned by J. Ronald Terwilliger, a real estate mogul. It will play its home games at the Philips Arena, which also plays host to the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and Atlanta Thrashers (NHL).
On November 27, 2007 Atlanta named Marynell Meadors the first head coach/general manager in franchise history. Meadors had been the first-ever head coach of the now-defunct Charlotte Sting when that team began in 1997.
On January 23, 2008 Atlanta announced that the team name will be the Dream. The team colors will be sky blue, red, and white. In 2007, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced a voting contest for people to choose the team name and team colors. Two other options (aside from the winning sky blue, red, and white colors) were lime green and hot pink. Voters had a choice of four different team names and four different team colors from which to choose.
On February 6, 2008 Atlanta held their expansion draft, when they selected one player from each of the 13 teams in the league. Atlanta traded Roneeka Hodges and their number 4 pick in the WNBA draft to the Seattle Storm for Iziane Castro Marques and Seattle's 8th pick in the 2008 draft. Also, the Dream traded the 18th pick and LaToya Thomas to the Detroit Shock for Ivory Latta.
Atlanta Dream games are carried on Super Talk 1230 and 1340, WALR. Art Eckman provides play-by-play.[1]
