User:Acalamari
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greetings, my (user) name is Acalamari. I am an English immigrant living on the West Coast of the mainland United States of America.
I joined Wikipedia on October 19th, 2006, though the logs say that I joined on the 20th. That's only because of time differences, since Wikipedia is on a different time to me. The main reason I decided to register with Wikipedia was so I could correct minor errors in articles; however, I soon moved on from fixing mistakes to become more involved with discussions, policy, improving content, etc.
Upon hearing about the deaths of Molly Ivins and Anna Nicole Smith, I went straight to those articles to help out. It is sad that some people vandalized these pages when they heard about the deaths.
I help deal with sockpuppets and trolls, vandals, and other disruptive users. On a nicer note, I give help to users whenever I can, and if my Wikipedia skills don't cover what a user needs, I will always check the Wikipedia help pages or ask an someone who I know has the knowledge of something I'm not totally familiar with.
December 22nd, 2006, 02:58; reached 500 contributions. It was a message to "Talk: Kylie Ireland".
March 5th 2007, 23:49; reached 3500 contributions. This was an edit to "Adam Sandler" article.
May 18th 2007, 03:52; reached 10000 contributions. This was a minor edit to "Starfleet".
June 11th 2007, 23:27; reached 12000 contributions. It was an edit to the article "Tamia", and I removed an image with no source and no copyright status.
February 14th 2008, 23:45; reached 30000 contributions. It was an edit to "User talk:Corvus cornix", telling them that they were welcome for a gift I had given.
According to Wikipedia: List of Wikipedians by number of edits, I am our 308 highest user with the most edits. However, this does not mean that I am "higher ranking" than other editors; it just means I'm on the list.
Another thing: this user page does get vandalized. Thank you to all the kind users who have reverted the vandalism.
Plus: When the English-Language Wikipedia reached 1,500,000 articles, I typed in this message to acknowledge Wikipedia.
The meaning of my username: Acalamari does not have anything to do with me being a squid. It is named after the animal, and it is also named after a fictional planet called "Mon Calamari". The "A" at the front separates it from "calamari". I also think the name Acalamari just looks and sounds good.
For some reason, some people don't seem to be able to spell my name right. Instead, they just put "Aclamari", "Alcamari", "Alacamari", or "Acamalari". I do not know why they aren't able to spell it correctly. Acalamari is easy to spell, but some users still type it wrong. As for the pronunciation of my username, I pronounce it as "Ac-ala-mari" instead of "A-calamari" or "Acal-amari". How others pronounce my username doesn't bother me.
Also, in the event you come across another "Acalamari" on the internet, unless it has something to do with Wikipedia, it is unlikely to be this Acalamari. I found out that there is another "Acalamari" somewhere on the internet, but that person is not me.
My username has also been parodied, or "spoofed", as Persian Poet Gal calls it. The list of spoofs on my name are on this page.
These barnstars and other awards are on a subpage. I wish to thank HighInBC for both creating this page, and for awarding me my first barnstar. My RfA/RfB-related awards are located on User: Acalamari/RfA-related awards.
The following text is not an actual award, but due to it's content, and by the fact it's message from Mr. Jimbo Wales, it's just as good as an award. Here is the edit he made. Since the message Mr. Wales posted on my talk page ultimately got archived, I have copied and pasted it here for others to read:
You did the right thing. You were polite and sensible throughout. It is no problem. :)--Jimbo Wales 02:58, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
The Working Man's Barnstar
This barnstar is given to Acalamari for his hard work, endless kindness to other users, and his devotion to the project. And most of all, for causing me tremendous worries as an editor but no worries as an administrator. :) Sarah 18:55, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

You're an excellent contributor to WP but more importantly, a really nice person! You've got a good heart - Alison☺
