Čiližská Radvaň

Čiližská Radvaň (Hungarian: Csilizradvány) is a village and municipality in the Dunajská Streda District in the Trnava Region of south-west Slovakia.

The first mention of the village was in 1101 in the Zobori abbey’s land-registration. From this fact and from the village’s name arises that Csilizradvány could have been a settled area in the reign of Great Moravian Empire (833-907).

The municipality lies at an altitude of 113 metres and covers an area of 21.412km². It has a population of about 1,277 people.

Calvinist church
The first item about the church was a local legend, according to this, IV. Adalbert king’s wife, being chased by tartars, gave birth to a baby in a hedge, which is near the church. The child was baptized in the church. From this occasion the king gave a privilege to inhabitants in Radvány. In pursuance of this privilege people from other villages had to use different door to enter the church (so people from Radvány didn’t have to use common door with other villagers). The church is being reconstructed at the moment. During these works the walled up door turned up again from under the old plaster. Originally, the church was built in Romanesque style, this can be proved by the remains of murals. However in the Pázmány’s registration (17th century) it is mentioned as a gothic church. In this time it has become Calvinist church. The church has been burned down and rebuilt many times. The last big renovation was in 1908 after a combustion – the church was rebuilt in neoclassical style. The current furniture in the church are: benches, the organ-loft – in neoclassical style, pulpit – neobaroque style. The furniture and the front-door were made by local masters.
